liver failure from partying

i've never considered myself an alcoholic but i drink almost every day (im in my 20s), usually socially at the bar or sometimes at home alone. my friends party a lot and this often involves what older people call "binge drinking". ive never seen it as "bingeing" because it is always fun, just overindulging in good times! i am a big guy with a "go big or go home" attitude so i usually end up drinking more than those around me too. lately i get pain in my right side when i drink. sometimes the skin over the right side of my abdomen is itchy. i am starting to get worried about cirrhosis or liver failure. other than stopping drinking, what can i do? is there anything i can eat or do to protect my liver? should i see a doctor?

Hi...I partied my liver away in my 20's as well...they gave me a liver Transplant on January 7, 2011.  My advice is, go get help, even if you don't think you need it.  You are at the beginning of hell on earth but you can stop it all...the only way is to put down the bottle.  I was only 33, when they told me I had 4 months to live....about a year before that my right side hurt when I slept on it and I was itchy.  I also lied about how much I drank.  I Me and my new liver are alive and well and very sober.

i would suggest you who still drink despite pain take a look at the liver forum on this site.  read what people are going through.  either you choose to quit while you still can or have to quit because of liver disease.  most of us want to make the decision for ourselves

I'm 23 and I'm an alcoholic. I've been drinking for 14 yrs I was 9 my first drink.  It is sad but pretty common what u are feeling.  When I would drink hardcore a liter or more a day my right side killed me. But soon as I'd drink it would go away or it would hurt even more to Were I couldn't drink at all. It's def you're liver telling you to quit drinking so much.  But also your liver is very good at repairing itself.  Now that I'm n mental health court bc of my drinking. N number of battery. Charges that all happen when drunk I only drink maybe once a

doesn't matter your age, i have heard of people in their 20's dying from liver failure and A LOT of people in their 30's.  also do you ever take tylenol or pain pills with the alcohol?  that could take someone out in short order.  go see your doctor because pain is a sign something is wrong

If your worried about your drinking, you should definitely do something about it. There is a very simple blood test your doctor can do. He can see your liver enzyme levels which would indicate damage. My guess, because of your young age, your liver is still fine.  But it won't stay that way, if you keep drinking like you are. I've had your symptoms and my liver was always fine. Your liver can repair itself from some damage. But you want to stop before you reach a point where it can't repair itself anymore. I'd get the blood test to ease your mind. Then try to quit (just tell your friends your working on your health for a bit).  If you find you end up drinking even when you told yourself you wouldn't, there is a bigger problem.  That problem is in your brain and you should reach out for help. Good luck and take care of yourself.
