High ASO titers

I have an 8 yr old son who has had various complaints over the last several months that seem to come and go. His main complaints are of weakness, headaches, stomachaches, with occasional complaints of leg pain, chest pain, shortness of breath. He has also had a chronic dry cough and decreased appetite some of the time. He also has been experiencing periods of sadness, anxiety and fearfulness. I took him to the doctor last week and he ran some tests on his blood. All was normal except the neutrophils were low at 32.1 and the lymph was high at 56.1 and the ASO titer was very high at 756. The pediatrician recommending sending him to a pediatric neurologist and possibly starting him on antibiotics. My questions are; should we re-test him, check a throat culture for strep (He was tested 4 wks ago and it was negative) send him to a cardiologist to r/o rheumatic fever or just wait and see if his levels go down? Please help me so I know which direction to go! Thank you!!

I'm so glad to find a forum like this. I had an 8 year old daughter with the same sypmtoms like your son. She would always complain of leg pains specially in knees and ankle area, got her legs x-rayed and the doc said that it is only growing pains. But she still suffered from it. She also had a lot of allergies specially airborne, like dust, smoke, paint, etc...Doc now gave her montelukast for 10 days for her allergy, then took ASO, CPK, and LDH test. ASO 400, LDH 244.32 which is high, while CPK is normal. Im so worried about the situation, although she acts normal, she enjoys sports, like swimming and karate. Just keep the faith in God and our kids will be better...

HI.  My daughter is 10 and has the exact same symptoms as your son did.  She has had them for 4 months and has elevated ASO titer.  She was treated on antibiotics for  2 weeks, and then 3 weeks with no result.  Did you ever get this resolved?

Thanks.

hello
I have high level of ASO (470), and it caused skin infections(parapsoriasys gutata) and very ofen I feel seeknes and dizzyness.I used diferend kinds of antibiotics (ospen 1500-15 days every month, and injection 1.200.000 -once monthly), but no results.I'm very concerned because my husbent has a high level of ASO too, and we can't solve our problem. I had big problems with my tonsillitis (angina), but I had an operation in oktomber 2005 year, and after the surgery I start to feel better, but the ASO title is very high now.

My son, 7 years old, went to the dentist for routine check up.  The dentist noticed redness in his throat.  Just so happens the same afternoon, he had a 7 year old check up at the pediatricians.  The pediatrician did a throat culture and it was strep.  Because it was an annual checkup, the pediatrician also orders a blood test from the vein.  My son had a high level of ASO...435 I believe.  He was suppose to come back to after the antibiotics were finished to clear strep.  Strep cleared at the end of the antibiotics medicine but ASO still unchanged.  Since there's no associated symptoms to indicate an illness, I was just told to watch out for certain symptoms....rash, joint pain, blood in urine, headaches, stomachache.  It has been 4 months since....tonight I noticed a small lump on my son's neck.  I don't know if this has any relation to the ASO...can anyone tell me?
