Hi, welcome to the forum. Plasma levels of aspartate and alanine aminotransferases (AST [SGOT] and ALT [SGPT]) are routinely measured to assess liver function.
Normally SGPT level is below 40 IU/L. SGPT is marker of liver diseases or liver conditions.
Anti tubercular drugs like isoniazid, rifampicin and pyrizinamide which are commonly given for treatment are known to cause hepatotoxicity. It is firstly evident by increase in liver enzymes. You enzyme levels suggest a mild hepatic damamge. But usually it is reversible damage i.e. once you discontinue the drug the effects over liver is reversed and it can be evident by monitoring liver enzymes regularly.
You need not worry; repeat the test after a month. If the levels lower down then it may point towards healing of damaged liver cells.
I suggest you to consult physician for next further management. Take care and regards.

Hi, welcome to the forum, anz of the three drugs i.e. isoniazid, rifampicin and pyrizinamide is responsible for this. Hence, it is important to find out the responsible agent. This can be evaluated by your health care provider. Further intake of such responsible agent should be stopped and shifted to alternative anti tubercular agents.
As I have already stated, it may be reversible damage i.e. once you discontinue the drug the effects over liver is reversed and it can be evident by monitoring liver enzymes regularly. Take care and regards.

Sir, My wife has been suffering from itching for the 7 months. We have met quite a few doctors of repute, have undergone ALP (~400+), SGOT (~56) and SGPT (~71) at regular intervals. MRI and MCHP has also been performed. Liver biopsy was done some 10 days back. Almost all the test have been conducted with normal results. She is presently on ursodil sr and atarax.
Yet Her itching persists and it is adding a lot of problem. I would be very thankful to you if you could suggest some recourse or advise us to a doctor whom we can meet.
