Toddler with Sun Allergy?

My almost 2 year old has had problems with being outside since he was born. If he walks outside and there is even a hint of sun or if it is bright at all, he has to squint to see and around his eyes( cheek, temple areas) break out in red UNraised spots. Like Hives. And his eyes will water constantly. The doctors have put him on 2 different allergy meds and neither seem to work. EVen if he wears sunglasses, the light still shines through the top and makes it hard for him to see. He could barely find easter eggs yesterday and there was nothing but clouds in the sky! I, Myself, have extremely light sensitive eyes that water all the time, but not the red spots.  HELP!!!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
This can be due to photodermatitis and solar urticaria. It is the development of hives minutes after exposure to the sun, which resolve in less than 1 hour.
Apply a good sunscreen atleast half an hour before going out in the sun. You can give your child non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine or Loratadine(Claritin) when the rash appears. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You may give Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. Also apply calamine lotion and a mild steroid cream like dermacort on the rash.

To prevent solar urticaria in future, desensitization using phototherapy and photochemotherapy are often advised. In this we try to decrease the amount of exposure by gradually increasing exposure to the form of radiation that brings about the reaction.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

He also has Bronchiomalacia and 1 doctor had thought this had all come about because of the number of times he was on steroids and antibiotics due to the bronchiomalacia
