I have never tried to sniff the dill flower, but I do know that when exposed to the spice, even when trace amounts are inhaled, I immediately experience severe difficulty breathing. It is very uncomfortable, and frustrating because dill is in a lot of things that people aren't aware of like pickles and relish, as well as a commonly used herb in seafood and Greek dishes.
I am so sensitive to dill, that if someone is eating a pickle in the same room I cannot breath, and have to go outside. it feels like an asthmatic reaction. I even have a hard time walking through the pickle aisle in the grocery store (I'm guessing because of previously broken pickle jars that have left lingering particles in the air.) Its very frustrating because some people assume that the reaction is psychosomatic since they cannot detect the trace amounts of the herb which set me off. However, I always react whether I know that it is there or not.
In addition to dill, I have similar reactions to carrots, celery, parsley, and coconut. very weird.
do you have any other similar food reactions?
When dill is being used for any recipe I can feel the aroma from far and I get nausea. If I eat it I get nausea and vomiting.
Hello, I don't have the same symptoms as you, however if I eat dill I suffer from severe nausea for 2-3 hours. Horrible! I hope you find someone else with your symptoms :(
