I was told first that I had a goiter. I was then told that means you have Hashimotos. I has a scan of my thyroid to look for nodules..none. My levels however were normal. My levels stayed normal for about a year...up until about 3 months ago...and at that point they were only "slightly off". For some reason I never attributed it to iodine because I always thought iodine was in salt, and then I saw research that said that iodine could actually HURT the thyroid...although Im not so sure now. So I personally don't think my thyroid is "dead" especially after only being on meds for 3 months. I think it could be being caused from something else...autoimmune or not.....especially dietary. I want to wear my self off of it, but very nervous because of my periods being so out of sorts. However, my periods are the ONLY thing its helped, and my neck feels really swollen, which I assume is related to the goiter....so I would think if the goiter is caused from iodine deficiecny, and you took idoine and got read of the goiter, perhaps it would get rid of the hashi's. theoretically....
The Yog Pranayam will help to control the thyroid and other symptoms you are facing.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.
Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Thyroid problems can manifest suddenly, even though they may take a lot of time getting there. Hashimoto's, assuming diagnosed correctly, isn't correctable with our current state of knowledge about auto-immune diseases, so you're stuck with it and the medication. However, if you have Hashimoto's, your thyroid should have pretty much not been functioning at all, or headed there. If you suspect this diagnosis was incorrect, you could get a second opinion, but once you're on synthetic thyroid treatment for a period of time your thyroid will stop working anyway. If you were just hypothyroid you could try seaweed or other iodine treatment, but if it's Hashimoto's, your body is attacking your thyroid and I don't know any reliable cure for that, though some will claim they've done it naturally. If it's true, I have no idea. Now, I say all this because a thyroid problem is one thing that can cause every one of your problems other than the structural one with your spine, which everyone has in some way or another. We weren't meant to walk upright, as they say! Now, you could also have a separate anxiety problem -- you also have symptoms of that -- and anxiety can cause just about anything, but thyroid problems can cause anxiety problems. There is a chance, of course, you were exposed to environmental toxins -- here near Washington, D.C., the EPA was originally housed in a very sick building, and many people suffered huge problems because of it. I personally know two of them, both lawyers, who lost quite a bit of their functionality. Unfortunately, the state of medicine is far from the certain science claimed for it, so there's no way for anyone to know what's truly going on, including doctors. The best one can hope is that one finds that rare curious doc or natural practitioner who keeps looking and stumbles on the problem. Candida is easy to test for, by the way, but it would have to be systemic, meaning inside your internal organs, to cause this much trouble. Everything is a possibility, but with your thyroid diagnosis, that might explain it, especially given your problem with periods, which is a definite sign of thyroid problem. Good luck.
I also was told I had an iron defeciency, but I also was on my period for 26 days...thryoid pills did help regulate that...I've been on those for 3 months. Periods are still every 47 days instead of 28 etc...and last 8-9 days. I assume they are still regulating. Im on levothryoixine and do not want to be on it.
