I was cured of all my food allergies (by kinesiology), but still have asthma, so I agree with you. But getting rid of the allergies served to prevent asthmatic emergencies.

Asthma is not necessarily an allergic condition.  I'm not saying this to be contrary, just as a warning that people who think they have asthma need to see a specialist to find out what kind of asthma they have in order to properly treat it, no matter which modality they choose as the favored form of treatment.  All forms of asthma, of course, are aggravated by allergies that manifest their symptoms as lung congestion, but only some forms of asthma are believed to be caused by allergies.  The treatment for allergies long term is to try to tone down the overactive immune system that causes them (yeah, I know, good luck with that), but that won't be the treatment for asthma, though it might help mitigate symptoms.  Peace.

Anti-inflammatory and/or mucolytic vitamins: vitamin B5 (large dose) and vitamin C
Herbs: Mullein, marshmallow
Yin-nourishing Chinese herbs specific for lung problems

I use all of the above and the only prescribed medicine I take is albuterol/ipratropium in a nebulizer.

Before that I followed the protocol of traditional medicine and it almost killed me.

In traditional Chinese medicine, asthma is considered not just a disorder of the lungs but also of the kidneys and the stomach. This explains why the acupoints that correspond to the treatment of asthma are located along the lung, kidney, and stomach meridians. Acupoints along the bladder meridian are also treated since bladder function is considered important for the overall health of the body's organs.

The Yoga Pranayam (breathing exercises) will  help with controlling asthma  problems. You will see the result in months, as the need for inhaler will decrease.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes.Place your fists, with the thumb pointing up, on the the legs, above the the knee, and do bhastrika for one minute.Repeat this for one minute, but with the fists upside down, so that the thumb is pointing down, and resting on the legs.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 10 to 30 minutes twice a day. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Children under 15 years – do for 5 to 10 minutes.

Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do for 5 to 10 minutes.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 21  times

Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day.
Be patient, as the benefits will show over a period of weeks.Only by doing you will benefit
and feel good because you are helping your body.

Anyone doing this pranayam, please post your feedback, so others may benefit.

Asthma is made worse by allergies and inflammation, so the best thing to do is avoid foods and things like mold and dust that are common allergens or pro-inflammatory, such as dairy and wheat.  There are also natural substances that help with clearing, such as mullein, and natural antihistamines, such as freeze dried nettle leaf and bromelain, quercitin, and vitamin c combinations.  Sometimes moving to a different climate can help as well.  Unfortunately, the best herb for asthma, ephedra, has effectively been banned because people were using it to make meth.  It's speedy, but is excellent for clearing and keeping passages open.  It's the plant ephedrine and pseudoephedrine were isolated from.  But a complete asthma program would be complicated, and would be best done by reading about the natural approach or seeing a holistic nutritionist or a naturopath.

A Holistic Approach To Asthma Treatment
good hydration can have very positive effects for those with asthma. One of the hallmarks of asthma is mucous production that clogs the airways. What is the best known mucolytic agent, something that breaks down mucous? The answer is easy — water. At the first sign of wheezing,  drink an eight-ounce glass of water mixed with ¼ teaspoon of unrefined salt.
This combination of water and salt helps break down mucous and relax the airways. Water helps break down and thin the mucous of the airways. Salt (and only unrefined salt) contains minerals such as magnesium that are very relaxing to the smooth muscles of the airways. When you start wheezing the first thing to do is reach for the watersalt
combination.  if you ingest this combination early, It often overcomes the wheezing.
It is very important, too, to be hydrated before participating in sporting events. Many people with asthma experience wheezing with exertion. mixture before beginning an exercise regimen. Those who have to use an inhaler before exercise often find they don’t need to use their inhaler as long as they maintain good hydration.
Children are notoriously dehydrated. They drink too much soda and juices and not enough water.encourage all children to drink water as their primary source of liquids. Soda and juices dehydrate the body, and drinking them can promote asthma symptoms in those predisposed to it.
Dairy Makes Asthma Worse milk Pasteurized milk products stimulate mucous production in many people. Increased mucous production is present in all asthmatic episodes.
milk allergy is prevalent in asthmatic patients. Conventional milk products should be minimized or avoided and water should be the beverage of choice. There is very little good nutrition in conventional dairy products. Magnesium is an important element that is
deficient in our food supply. It is the eleventh most abundant element by weight in the
human body. Every cell in the body depends on adequate levels of magnesium to function optimally. More than 300 enzymes in our body require magnesium to function, and the body needs it to make energy. magnesium deficiency is relatively common. It is estimated that less than a third of the citizens of the United States ingest the recommended
daily allowance for magnesium.  The RDA for magnesium (or RDI, recommended daily intake) is approximately 300 to 400 mg/day.
Eating refined foods results in low levels of most nutrients, including magnesium. Good sources of magnesium include pumpkin seeds, barley, buckwheat flour, nuts, beans, seeds, fish, and spinach. Magnesium is known as nature’s muscle-relaxing agent. In asthma, the smooth muscles around the airways can become hyper-reactive. The prescription medications Singulair, Advair, and Serevent all work, in part, by dilating the smooth muscles around the airways. However, all of these medications
are associated with a host of serious side effects. Magnesium, however, can result in the dilation of the smooth muscles around the airways with no serious adverse effects and much less cost. The most serious adverse effect  with magnesium is diarrhea. If you get diarrhea or loose stools with magnesium, just lower the dose. How much magnesium do you need? It varies  but generally 100 to 400 mg/day is adequate
for most asthmatic patients. Magnesium is a very calming and is best taken around bedtime. Researchers have reported that sun exposure during pregnancy reduces the risk of developing asthma in kids. They looked at the vitamin D intake of 2,000 pregnant women in Scotland and the development of asthma in their children. Those in the highest group of vitamin D intake compared with the group with the lowest intake had a greater than 50 percent lowered risk of wheezing in their children at 5 years of age.  those mothers with the lowest vitamin D intake in pregnancy were associated with a decreased response
to asthma medication in their children. People are inappropriately afraid of the sun. We use sunscreen in ever-increasing amounts. The result of this sunphobia mentality is vitamin D deficiency, which is occurring at pandemic rates. Vitamin D supplementation can be an important part of nearly any holistic regimen, including the treatment of asthma. Adults generally require 2,000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin D per day and children smaller amounts. Any lab can measure vitamin D levels easily with a routine blood draw.
