Chinese medicine is very complicated to understand. They will frequently start with a liver cleanse to clear you of toxins, but then switch to other herbs. Traditional Chinese medicine has a diagnostic system completely different from any other form of medicine, and certainly different from allopathic medicine. I personally think it's a good idea to see an allopathic physician for a diagnosis before deciding on a plan for herbal treatment -- as the above post said, if your problem is the thyroid, the liver cleanse won't help, but it might help as a starting point if the problem is sexual hormones, as they're manufactured by cholesterol and the liver regulates how well the body handles fats. As for how long herbal medicine takes, a general rule that used to be tossed around is one month for every year it took to get the problem, but of course it's very individual. Chinese medicine is usually healing by stages, so it doesn't attempt to work quickly; instead it aims to cure, which takes longer and might not work, as there is not guarantee in any form of medicine.
Have you had a diagnosis of what might be wrong first? If, for example, your excess heat is caused by Thyroid problems, then only treating the Thyroid will really work. If it's caused by Menopause, then a different herbal combination might be needed. You might have low-grade fever, caused by any number of things, or an infection somewhere....
I would definitely recommend going to a conventional doctor for a full diagnosis first. Then you can make your choice about what course of treatment you need.
My personal opinion about any form of treatment is -if no benefits are felt, then the treatment probably needs to be changed.
I don't know about Chinese Herbs. I take herbs myself if ever needed. But I take the Western medicines.
Healing is the goal here. And sometimes the quickest route to that healing is by using conventional medicines. Not always, by any means. But sometimes.
