Alternative Medicine

I would like some advice on getting some type of OTC drug or natural supplement that may replace antibiotics. I have had a sinus and gum infection along w/headaches and tooth pain for 4 mos. I live in VA., and they don't sell antibiotics OTC like some sates do. In addition, I have BV and I hope that the antibiotic would help that too. Also, I'm uninsured and cannot see a physician, therefore, I cannot obtain a prescription.
The public heath centers here are very selective about who they help.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure this hava fellow is trying to be helpful, but turmeric isn't an antibiotic of any potency.  It's very good for the liver and is anti-inflammatory, but if you have a gum infection you must see a dentist.  I know money is a problem, but it gets more expensive as the problem gets worse.  Sinus infections usually go away by themselves, but if they don't, they can also lead to worse problems down the road.  There are a lot of natural antiobiotics, but I have a simple question -- how do you know you have a gum infection and a sinus infection if you haven't seen a doctor?  And no states sell antibiotics OTC.  You're thinking of some other countries, but not the US.  They are prescription drugs, and they can be dangerous, and you have to choose the right one and you have to use them properly or you develop resistant infections.  There are many natural antibiotics, but they aren't that easy to use if you don't know how.  Myrrh and goldenseal are often used for gums, but these are hard infections to get at because they can be in the tooth.  Sometimes the only remedy is getting the tooth pulled, if that's really what it is (keeping in mind that a sinus infection will often make the teeth hurt).  Garlic and colloidal silver are other natural antibiotics, but again, in this case, you must see a doctor or dentist or both.  Sorry.

Breathing exercises recommended by "hava" have helped my sinus condition. I no longer breath through my mouth.

Thank you for your response. I have recently visited a doctor. She gave me some antibiotics, so I guess I'll wait and see how this works out. She also said that I would need to see a dentist. I guess I will see what's next in line at my follow-up visit. Again, Thanks!

Take one teaspoon of turmeric powder, in hot water or hot milk, everyday. This is a natural antibiotic.Do the pranayam, twice a day, and your symptoms will go down gradually. Come back to report your progress - very important, as there are many in a similar position, like you.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 21  times.
Continue the pranayam, once a day, after you are better.
