When my grandmother had trouble with her gallbladder (sometime in the 1950's) my uncle, who was a doctor, did not want to operate because she was old and had a weak heart. He decided to try an old treatment. All I remember (I was a kid and not much interested) was that she had to eat some heavy cream every two hours. There is also a vague memory of my mother making her pasta, but without red sauce. I asked a sister about this and she only added that my grandmother had to eat one raw egg a day, which she hated.
My grandmother never had the surgery and her condition cleared up totally. Does anyone know the rest of the treatment? What I like about it is that it is very gentle. Surfing the net, all the natural treatments are extremely unpleasant and seem to be hard on the system. Here's hoping someone can add details.
In my oppinion, gallbladder problems are most often caused by the lack of it's activity. It's function is to release bile into our intestines when we consume fat. No fat consumption, and the gallbladder just sits there doing nothing, all loaded with bile. By eating heavy cream, your grandma was 'forcing' the gallbladder to release it's contents. Egg yolk contains a reasonable amount of fat. Fatty bacon would also do the job.
I don't recommend eating raw egg white, as it contains a powerful antibiotin which may kill off some friendly gut flora. That's why eggs don't spoil so quickly.
