Panic-like attacks during sleep

Anyone get woken from night's sleep with panic attack symptoms? Startled awake --- no dreams that I recall --- feeling fear, dread, panic, intense worry, racing heart, chest tightness. Takes quite a while to get back to sleep and only with intense positive self talk.
Regular reiki helps but not enough. I take 5 mg Melatonin which helps me get to sleep. Super Evening Primrose Oil (1300) has proven to make me sleep all the next day. 400 mg Magnesium before bed helps me sleep but doesn't stop the episodes.
I haven't done a sleep study...not sure if it'd be a waste of money. My psychlolgist isn't convinced I need one, either. CBT has taken the edge off, but I need more relief! Comments, anyone? Insight?

It sounds like you are having a nocturnal panic attack. I see a cognitive therapist for panic attacks and am feeling much better after three visits. Maybe you should try a new therapist. I know a lot of people don't want to take medicine but if the attacks are severe maybe you should try it for a few months as you go to therapy. I started taking generic Effexor. I hope you are feeling better soon!
