Shortness of Breath when waking worried about effects on Brain?

Recently i have been waking up short of breath, though i dont wake up gasping for air it feels as if im not breathing well while sleeping. I know this is probably my hypochondria but what does this do to my brain if anything due to the lack of oxygen? Could this cause brain damage or am i over thinking this?

Are you waking up before you're ready to wake up?  If so, it could be sleep apnea, something you can get checked out for.
