Brain Fog?

Im a freshman at college and i dont know what im struggling with! I chose to go to a college 2 hours from my home town last fall by myself (meaning no friends or acquaintances from my highschool) and ever since i have not been feeling the same. I feel foggy all the time and can't think straight. I am not really aware of my surroundings and catch my self drifting off into my thoughts. I have become awkward in social situations which i never have been before and its starting to feel like a new "normal me" which is scaring me. I feel completely different than from who i know i am and i cant stop thinking about it constantly. I have been going out on the weekends with people i like to call friends but i know im only going out cause i feel like i have to, and when i drink, what feels like a cloud of confusion comes over my brain after one drink which is so abnormal for me. On winter break i feel fine, just like i did when i started school but the minute i got back to school this semester i could feel that "fog" cloud over my brain and I would start to think about every little thing and over analyze it. I barely have any friends at school which is rare and i feel like its hard to find some at this point. My roommate is socially awkward in general, even before i arrived here, and im switching rooms next week. Ive tried organizing myself, a better sleep schedule, eating better, exercising, meditation even which is really extreme for me. For me to even post on one of these sites would have been out of the question before i started to feel this way but i feel like there is something really wrong psychologically that i cant fix on my own. If anyone has experienced this and can help with tips to getting back to a normal healthy more conscious state of mind where i can be myself I would appreciate it. I feel like im going crazy with so many thoughts running through my head CONSTANTLY and i know for certain I'm transferring next year

I had brain fog for 8.5 years and got really bad 2 -3 years ago.  In my case, stress and high carbohydrate (e.g. sugar, rice, flours, alcohol) intake seem to make it worst but it was not the cause.  Supplements help to reduce the inflammation but did not fix the problem. I was cured last year 2013 by my new dentist. I had a serious root canal infection in the upper jaw, nearby left nasal area. After removing the nerve, cleaned up the root canal and with 2-week of antibiotic intake, all of the sudden the brain fog completely went away. There are other brain fog causes such as Candida overgrowth, food allergies, mold infest room or contaminated air will cause brain fog, too, because I had been through this path. It is a long story. Pay close attention to your surrounding and take notes.  Check out this website http://www.drlwilson.com/articles/brain_fog.htm. It is educational and helpful.  Good luck and best wishes.

I felt really lost and isolated when I started new schools, but it goes away.  You get used to it.  I hope that's all this is.

I replied to your private message. I know about the brain fog you're describing. It does sound like possible depression to me.

Any change in your life whether it be good or bad can be very stressful.
The brain fog could be depression and anxiety. I'm sure you must have a school counselor on your campus. I recommend you talk to the counselor and tell them how you're feeling.
Moving away from home and starting college can be so stressful. I really hope once you get used to things everything will get better. It may very well be a good idea to go to school closer to home.
