Can a person suddenly develop a phobia?

Hi all.  Let me give you some background info....in 2010 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer (which is now cured) and had to undergo lab testing constantly.  I had my blood drawn once a day for a week and then twice a week for months on end.  It never bothered me in the least.  Fast forward a year and I was getting my blood drawn at least once every three months and again, it never bothered me.  Then my doctor told me my cancer was gone and I got back to living my life.  Last month he ordered more labs and I almost passed out when the girl was filling the vial.  Ever since I get all weirded out when I think about having to have my blood drawn.  I have a history of panic attacks and generalized anxiety, and I'm currently on Lexapro and Klonopin because both have come back with a vengence.  My question is this...can someone suddenly develop a phobia over something that has been normal and routine for them?

Yes -- almost always the way it happens.  Weird, isn't it?
