What to do

About a year and a half ago I suffered a bad panic attack. After a trip to the dr I was diagnosed with anxiety. My primary doctor prescribed me paxil and ativan. I stopped taking the paxil and was told to just stay on the ativan. A few weeks after starting to take the ativan I started getting jittery inside when the medicine was wearing off. My therapist informed me that with ativan you can feel the withdrawal while coming down. Around the summer time I was feeling better and was able to wean my self off. Now im experiencing the anxiety again and it's bad. I was assigned a new doctor who put me on xanax and I do not like it at all. Tomorrow I go back to the dr and was researching klonoplin and valium for more long term general anxiety. I do not want to take any anti depressants. What should I do

Well, antidepressants are safer long-term, although I wouldn't say that about Paxil, one of the most difficult of them all to take and to stop taking.  Benzos are addictive if taken regularly and also very hard to stop taking.  But you get to choose.  I would just use a psychiatrist to do my choosing, not a regular doc, and I'd give therapy a good shot to see if I could do this without medication.

I agree with Paxiled on every point, for whatever that's worth. Best wishes!
