Help!

Hey everyone. I recently took a list of symptoms to my very understanding gp, as soon as I walked in the door I broke down and said I think I have health anxiety. She will refer me for cognitive behavioural therapy as a result but I'm panicking she may have missed something. I put on my list that my left breast looks funny. It is smaller than the right, nipple looks lower and has stretch marks and looks creased near the chest bone. I had a breast exam in jan but am really struggling with my anxiety at present. I've been battling with my discharge for a while and was going to be referred to a gyno for an earlier smear but lo and behold, smear invite came in the post this morning! I just need to sound off I think. I am losing friends over this and my life is just not happy at the minute ;( I'm even tempted to put in my referral form from the doc please check my boobs!! x

Thank you for your reply :) i went to the doctors AGAIN this morning, turns out all is fine :)

My referral for CBT has been submitted to my very patient doctor also :) It is making me miserable now and she has checked pretty much everything I've thrown at her :( I have started exercising again as often as I can manage as I can track these problems back to when I stopped back in September, that's when it all started :)

Thanks again!

It's not unusual at all for breasts to not be perfectly symmetrical. I'm quite certain that it's not a sign of breast cancer. And since you had an exam just a couple of months ago, I think you can rest assured you're fine in that department.

You're doing the right thing by getting CBT for your health anxiety. In the meantime, consider that worrying about your health isn't going to change anything -- at least not for the better. Also, you're making yourself at least as miserable, if not more, than if you actually had one of the conditions you are worried about. Life is too short to spend in nearly constant anxiety about your health. Instead, take good care of yourself (eat right, exercise, regular visits to the doctor, etc). If there's something that concerns you between checkups, go see your doctor. Your body will return the favor by taking care of itself, and you.
