Your pharmacist can give you good info about this med.
I'm of the opinion that these medications should be started out at a low dose, and slowly tapered up to the initial goal dose. In my experience, that significantly minimizes those initial "start up" side effects. The only downfall is that one has to be a little more patient, as that approach will make the whole process a little longer, to where you will see improvements.
To be fair, a person should give a medication at least 6-8 weeks before assessing its effectiveness. With a slow ramp up to the desired dose, you may be looking more at 3-4 months. Usually a person starts feeling better a good bit before then, it just takes that long to get to the maximum level of efficacy. I personally think it's well worth it to add time to the process in the name of tolerating the medication better.
That being said, 10mg is a very typical starting dose, and many people do just fine starting out there. What did your doctor recommend? If you would prefer to start out a little lower, then verbalize that to your doctor.
Make sure you're also seeking out therapy on top of the medication. While medications can be helpful in managing the symptoms of the anxiety, it's the "work" that occurs, both in therapy and on your own that will lead to the longest lasting progress.
Good luck, keep in touch and let us know how you're doing!
Read this anx resources page ng created. I got my meds at a 24 hour pharmacy so I could get info whenever I needed it although I don't know if you can access that kind of pharmacy in Shorewood.
