does celexa increase change of dementia or alzheimers?

I've used celexa (generic) for years and came across this article (below). So I went off the med and I can see that I'm a little more emotional and chewing my lips etc.  Also wondering if issues I've had with my back (sciatica that won't go away) is related-- I've always carried stress in my neck and back.
So, I'd love to hear from doctors as if Celexa is found to increase the risk of messing up my brain with dementia or alzheimers.  Thanks.

Sorry, no doctors on here, just anxiety sufferers like yourself.  Some researchers do believe there is a correlation between certain kinds of dementia and taking drugs that affect brain neurotransmitters, including benzos and antidepressants.  I don't think there's any certainty to it yet, and it probably also depends on other contributing factors in your life -- anxiety sufferers tend to have bad habits that also contribute to a risk of dementia.  But these meds were never found safe to use long-term nor were they approved for long-term use by the FDA -- the trials to get patents are all short-term.  If all you are is a little more emotional then that wouldn't be enough to take any med for -- that would get you to therapy to try to deal with it.  Medication is usually used when your life is pretty severely affected and you aren't having much of a life.  Which is a big consideration, because we do want to have lives before the age when we might get dementia, too.  No medication is ever going to be without risk, and many of those risks are not revealed to either doctors who prescribe them or to patients who take them -- they are often hidden in pharmaceutical company files until years of use bring it out into the open.  I'd only say, to ease fears a little without being able to make them go away, as I've been on antidepressants for years as well, is that dementia is a complex problem and is as much associated with, say, chronic inflammation as it is with other things.  It's like cancer -- we all have cancer cells in us but not all of us get cancer and not all of us get it in the same places -- there is more to it than just one thing.  Same with heart disease -- a lot of that is also chronic inflammation, not just, say, cholesterol, which is only harmful when it oxidizes and clogs up the blood vessels.  Can't make this fear go away, because it is becoming more and more a thing, but you have to have a life to live in order to get dementia.  Have you considered therapy?
