Pulsating abdomen (Urgent)

Hello, first let me start off by describing myself; I just turned 18 years old not long ago, I am in good overall health besides my anxiety, good cholest., no known diseases or family history of aneurysm's, no trauma to my abdomen. I have a slight gut (im not skinny at all), almost a beer belly so to speak.

I do have health anxiety, very, very, very bad health anxiety.

I recently noticed a pulse in my abdominal region. The entire thing. I went seaching and came up with one thing; which is an aortic aneurysm. As I described above im not at risk in any way. It is least when standing, very apparent when lying down, and inbetween when sitting. I can often feel it at times if I concentrate on it. I am trying to manage my anxiety, but when something like this comes up that is out of the question.

I recently (3 months ago) had an ultrasound of the heart. I do not remember if they checked my abdomen, Do they normaly scan the aorta too, just in case? I have heard they do. Does anyone else of my body size have this also? Is this normal? Could it be an aneurysm? Thank you all very much for your time.

I have this as well. A very strong pulsating feeling that matches the heartbeat in the abdomen. It is quite strong at night. I used to think it was my heart that was pounding, but it wasn't. It's the pulse in my abdomen. It is quite annoying and used to be a major source of anxiety for me. It sometimes is so strong- even when my BP is very low and my HR is low. I asked my doctor for an abdominal ultrasound because I too feared an AA. It turned out my aorta was normal sized with no sign of an aneurysm. Feeling that pulse was "normal" for me. Some people feel it, others do not. Knowing that helped my anxiety and now I do not notice it as often. Funny thing about anxiety is you become very sensitive to your body. I am assuming by an ultrasound of your heart, you meant an echocardiogram? Irregardless, that does not check the entire abdominal aorta. You need to ask specifically for an abdominal ultrasound of the aorta. At least I did. Chances are it is nothing because you do not fit the age group or have risk factors, but for your own sanity, I would get an ultrasound.

I had that sensation the other.  The pulsating abdomen.  It went on for like 4 hours on and off.  I am in good medical condition as far as I can tell.  But I also have anxiety so I tend to turn small things into big.  I am also very small.  I only developed my small gut in the last two years.  And the only thing that might be making my anziety worse is my wedding later this month.  You are probably fine as I am probably fine.  But I am no doctor, so don't take my word for it.  Good luck!!!

I agree with Suzi-q. It is prbobly just your pulse. If you look at your ankle. sometimes you can see it in there too. With me, it seems like I always have to focus on something (one of my new symptoms). It seems like I am always looking for something else to go wrong. My latest thing is it feels like I scratched my throat- not sure how or when, but that is what it feels like. So, I thought I had throat cancer. It is insane!! I know i dont, it is just the thought process when you have anxiety!! I too always tell me husband all of my symptoms- I tell him I know they are anxiety, but they still bother me. He tells me to just cut it out- because I know I am fine. It is hard for a person who has never experienced anxiety to understand why or how we are feeling what we are feeling. That is why this board is so wonderful! Nobody will turn you away, and we accept one another and support one another. I think it is easier to talk about what it going on, when you dont really know people. I find it really does help me when I just vent here and talk about my issues! Best of luck to you!!

From what you describe, it sounds like it is just your heartbeat...Especially if you are anxious and your heart is pounding, you can see it pound also in your abdomen.  I doubt highly that it is an anuerysm..It definitely would have been picked up on your ultrasound!

I have noticed the same thing just a few months ago.  I had to ask my boyfriend if it's normal, and he's like it too so I guess it is.  I have health anxiety also.  I'm finding that I notice every little thing about my body like did I always have these moles? these spots?were my veins always like this? I am driving my boyfriend crazy with all the questions.  They are valid concerns for me but he thinks I'm way overboard.  It's hard to realize that though when your body feels so off.
