Hun, please try not to worry. I do think this sounds like what I ALSO have, which is a panic attack. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder more than 15 years ago and I have learned many ways to treat. When you said you're just afraid it's going to happen again, that is SO NORMAL! Unfortunately worrying it will happen again can bring on what's called "rebound" panic attacks. Just fearing it will happen again can trigger one. You know the "fight or flight" response that everyone has? Well those of us with generalized anxiety disorder...our fight or flight is just sort of on "high alert" unlike most others. But it's totally okay hun. The best thing I can offer you, since you don't have medical insurance (though once you do, the absolute best option is a daily anti-depressant, and a prescription for xanax, for when you actually have a panic attack). but for now, read up. there are TONS of books at Barnes & Noble, or even you can search on Amazon. The best thing you can do, to stop feeling so confused and helpless is educate yourself. It will help you feel like you UNDERSTAND what's happening, when it happens. Sure it might not prevent it, but even though you FEEL, in those minutes, like you're dying, you're not. I promise you. THE actual definition of panic attacks is "an irrational fear of dying". When they happen to me, there is no rationalizing it. I just FEEL. And not much helps. But...an attack can't actually last longer than 10 minutes. Sure it can come back again, but again...only 10 minutes. Don't feel like you're going crazy, because I promise you, you're not. Just read up. It will make you feel empowered like you wouldn't believe. Understanding what's going on with your body gives you a sense of control. Plus these books will give you tips on how to get yourself through an attack, and even things to do when you feel one approaching. It's totally manageable. I promise. Good luck and just make sure somone is your "person" - - that one person who understands how scary this is for you. Sounds like you've got a fiance there - - put him to good use. He should read these books as well. It's not all in your head. Well....sure it starts out there, no doubt, but then it manifests physically, and he needs to understand this as much as you do. Please let me know how you're doing!
