anxiety help!!

I've been told by my doctor I have anxiety and have been taking Propanolol, they help sometimes but lately not so much. I've been under so much stress lately and don't know what to do. I can't talk to anyone and can never seem to get these thoughts out of my head, no matter what I do. My symptoms have been getting worse over the past couple of weeks, I've had a chest infection and I'm now constantly dizzy and think there's something really wrong, although the doctor said I'm fine. If anyone knows anything that may help, I would really appreciate it! Thanks x

The med might be making you lightheaded.  In your situation, I'd see a therapist and try to learn the why of your recent stress increase and some relaxation techniques.  I'd stay away from the drugs for now -- they present their own problems and won't cure your problem, just suppress it.  Too early for that, and there really is no magic pill.  If it becomes a chronic, worsening problem that doesn't respond to more curative therapy you can always turn to the meds, but they're not the best first resort.

No I've only been suffering for over a month, but i think that's a good idea. I've thought about exercise but never seem to get round to it, I always put it off! I've read through so many forums to find a way to manage it but nothing seems to work, the horrible thoughts always find a way of creeping back in!

Hi......Propanolol is usually prescribed for people like public speakers and just need to relax long enough to get through their speech.  Propanolol doesn't stay in our system very long and this may be why you're having problems on it.  Talk to your doctor about getting something that controls your anxiety 24/7 which would work much better for you.  You should also think about therapy to determine why you have anxiety and see if there is a root cause which can be dealt with and ease your anxiety.  Many of us never learn exactly why we have anxiety, but for some it can be a past traumatic event that they never truly dealt with or may have even forgotten about.  Therapy also can teach us how to cope better.  I hope this helps and take care!

Have you talked to your doctor about getting a more long term medication like a SSRI?  I take Zoloft daily for anxiety and from what I understand propanolol is more fast acting short term.  Also do you get out and work out... That is so important to burn off the extra energy.
