Hello everyone!
When I came back to medhelp after being away for some time, I decided that I should 'pay back' the support I was given, by answering questions from other members. I began to come across posts from people that say that they are 14 or 15 years old. The more I read there was just something about them that struck me as peculiar. The spelling, grammar and punctuation was much too good for a young teenager. It’s that or it looks as though the writer has deliberately spelling incorrectly and 'dumbed down' their words here and there. Has anyone else noticed what I’m talking about? I have become more and more hesitant to answer question(s)… because I can't get rid of this nagging suspicion that it is actually being asked by someone (much?) older. This isn't a chat room, so I can't figure out what someone would get out of impersonating a teenager (usually a girl) here in medhelp. That is precisely what I think, someone, or several some one's are impersonating being a teen. If I am correct, there is no way of knowing . Has anyone else run into posts like I'm talking about - or am I just being paranoid?? Thanks for sharing, I appreciate ANY thoughts on this! Take care ...
Unfortunately we can never know someone's true intention over the internet, therefore you have to pretty much take people at face value and extend an offer of help. You can always pick and choose which questions to answer, and if you aren't comfortable answering a post, skip it. Again, you can always send the CL's a PM if you feel something needs addressed and you're not comfortable doing so.
There are a good number of younger people seeking help these days, we see it a lot. You just have to remember that when you're replying to them, they are young, so suggestions to get parents'guardians involved are very important.
Try not to overthink things too much, just get out there and post...and thanks for your help!
