Anxiety and it's curious effects

I have been sick for about 5 days now. It is probably bronchitis or something. I don't have a fever. Believe me, I have a blood sugar tester, thermometer, and BP checker within reach of me right now. Temperature is 98.4. Blood sugar is 101. However, let me tell you what NOT to do....do not take your blood pressure during a spike of your anxiety attack, it will make it worse. Yes I am on BP meds. My blood pressure is usually between 130-140 over 80-85. I was feeling anxious about the thought of going to the doctor and took my blood pressure, and I took it. When it double clicked for a second time, it shot through the roof. I know many of you know what I am talking about. It's beeping and gets to it's normal point but then the tester realizes your BP is higher and then it squeezes even more. Ok, it showed up as 168 over 100. This got me scared as crap!!! So, during panic attack #2 (and again DO NOT TAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE DURING A PANIC ATTACK) I took it again and it was 170 over 122.

I took my Xanax about 30 minutes ago. It's down to 150 over 100. Given, that is still bad, but the more I calm down the more I realize that it is due to my anxiety.

Once a doctor told me my bp goes up, not bc I have high bp, but bc my heart beats sooooo fast, so the blood going in and out has to be way faster, too. That's why our bp goes up. Instead of focusing in you bp, try to calm your heart down, warm showers help me a lot, and I took many in the middle of many nights, deep breaths, and do something to take your mind of the problem, I even color a children's book, something silly, yes, you will have to work hard to keep your mind busy, I do, but as soon your heart calms down, so will your bp! Good luck! Hang in there, God is good, we will get thru this!

The more you think about it the worse it is going to get. When i think about it to much mine gets high too. Try to sit down for 10 mins relax deep breathing, and then take it while you are still relaxed, do it while you have no anxiety.  Also listen to mommyju...

Been there, done that! Then my doctor told me to "throw" the bp machine away! I don't have high blood pressure, but still have my machine hidden in my cabinet! It got to a point where I slept with the thing hooked in my arm and I measured it more than 100 times in 1 day ( I know that bc my machine has a 100 spots memory, and I filled the memory in one day)!!! My arm was all bruised! After the doctor telling me I should NOT do that, I stopped.... Went to 2 doctors in the last 2 months, both for annual check ups, and bp was fine!
Now, if I could only stay away from a scale! I'm doing the same thing weighting myself! UUURGHHHHHH!
Hang in there!
