Paxil

Please please please, I need help! I have been on paxil for just one month now and I have never felt so horrible in my whole life! My skin tingles, I can't sleep, or sit still, my mind is in a fog, I can't stop crying, I have been throwing up, and I get these wierd jerks in my legs and arms and anxiety that runs up my back. It is really destroying my life right now and I have a son I need to take care of and it makes it so hard when I feel like this. I have never been this depressed. I was just wondering if anybody knew how long it may take to wean off of a month of 10mg of Paxil?  Your input would be so appreciated!!! Thank you :)

Thanks so much for your help. I am going to my Doctor's tomorrow and I will ask him about it. I am the same way with anti-depressants. All of the newer ones have put me through Hell. It is like they are made much too strong for certain people. I have been on many and couldn't tolerate any of them but Paxil is by far the worst I have ever felt with a drug!!  Thanks again for your help :) It is nice to know that I am not alone through all of this!!!! Sincerly, Mopeybean :)

I had the same problem you are having with Paxil.  With me it wasn't just Paxil, but also Effexor and Cymbalta, all to treat panic attacks.  I could not stand them until my mother, who had the same problem in the past, was given a tricyclic amine, in this case, nortriptolyn (Pamelor).  It worked great with no side effects like the SSRIs.  I slept again and basically got my life back.

The doctors will tell you that they think the older tricyclic amine type drugs have too many side effects, but for people like me it is the opposite, the newer drugs are much worse.

This is just my experience, but you should look into it.

Hang in there!

Yeah I know what you mean the antidpressants made me worse. The only thing that does help me is the benzos. I wish I could take a pill everday to prevent the anxiety, but they havent' worked so far. I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist next month so maybe he can come up with something. I wish you the best and do hope you feel better soon.

One of the most common side effects of any anti-depressant or anti anxiety med is, ironically, increased anxiety.  Just never know what's going to happen.  This isn't your med, which is just as well -- Paxil can be a tough one.  Since you've only been on it a short time it shouldn't be hard to stop, but consult with your psychiatrist.  This doesn't mean another med will also do this to you, but it can happen.

Thanks so much for your input. I do have some valium to help when I get really anxious and that seems to help take the edge off. I called my doctor and he is getting me in tomorrow, so that is a relief!! The paxil seems to be making my anxiety a million times worse. It is kind of crazy to me how these meds work!!!! I have also tried many other meds that have not worked but this is by far the worst one :(  Thanks again for being so helpful. It is a lifesaver to me to be able to realate to other people about these issues!!!! Sincerely, Mopeybean :)

Alot of people including myself have increased anxiety when trying to go on these kinds of meds. To me it sounds like that is what is happening to you.I had the same symptoms when trying many of the SSRI's and up to this day I am stilll not taking meds but think I need to. I just wish something would work without causing me to feel worse. Have you asked your Dr about a short term anti-anxiety med like xanax, ativan, valium or klonopin? Maybe this would help you more to take as needed.I would think only taking the paxil the short amount of time you have been you shouldn't have withdrawl, but please call your prescribing doctor and let them know what is going on and that you want off the paxil and they will advice you as to what is safe. Good luck and I hope you feel better!
