What doctor do I go for ADD?

For years I have always felt constantly on edge and remember having panic attacks as young as 8 years old but my parents always ignored the signs. Now that I'm an adult I've been doing research. It started with looking up signs for depression and than anxiety and than ADD. All the signs point to that. I'm doing this alone with the help of no one and have no idea what steps need to be taken. I talked to a doctor about it and it seemed like she didn't take me too serious but recommend a Psychiatrist either way. I called but they didn't take my insurance. Which doctor do I make an appointment with for this? I don't want to go to one doctor and have them recommend me another doctor and so on. I appreciate the help on helping me take the first few steps on helping me figure out what's wrong with me finally.

If you have insurance, you need to know what the company requires you to do.  Some policies allow you to just go to a specialist, but many require a referral from your general doc to be covered.  ADD is really really hard to diagnose for professionals, as there is great debate over how often this condition actually exists.  If it's that hard for professionals to settle, it's going to be impossible for you to self-diagnose.

Where do you recommend I should start?
If you want to do this with insurance, then as I said you need to find out what your insurance company requires.  If that means referrals, then you start with your primary care physician.
