hard to breathe

I AM having this hard time breathing. I have had it before but seems bad. have had it since last night so went to the ER this am, they did a chest xray, listenened to my chest, did blood work w/heart tests and blood clot test, then did a ct scan w/dye to make sure nothing going on there. I am still having a hard time breathing off and on. When I take a Prilosec, it helps for while. Is this anxiety, or something else. What else could it be and should I be worried? Is it related to my stomach? Could GERD cause this? I have to stand a certain way and cross my arms or I feel like I can't breath right.

I should mention that the test for blood clots (d dimer??) came back slightly elevated, still w/in normal but high normal, that is why they did the chest scan. I am really freaking out!

it doesn't even feel to be in my chest but just below my breastbone in the center, that is where I cannot breath from. Could it be serious? They did a ct scan yesterday that included my stomach. I am pretty scared!

I would suggest having your general physician refer you to a gastroenterologist for a g.i. series to see if something is wrong there and/or do m.r.i.'s. There is such a thing as "refered pain". What appears to be in your chest could be your stomach and the cramping could cause respiratory distress. GERD is a good guess but a specialist should do further tests to rule this out.
