I had gotten 3 opinions on my son the councillor he sees now agrees with me hes not bipolar she is the one who diagnose him with adjustment disorder and possible odd but two other diagnose him with odd in the past. Now for myself i see his councillor too but havnt told bout the poking thought it was just anxiety. Thank you for ur advice i will be talking to her bout it.
Hello hon, welcome!
A few things...one I'm glad to hear you have sought professional help in the past. Are you getting any kind of help now? Therapy? If not, I suggest you seek it out. The poking definitely sounds like some kind of OCD related compulsion. If you consciously stop, does your anxiety increase?
Also, while I don't know all of your son's history, I am always VERY uncomfy to read about such young children being diagnosed with pretty serious grown-up mental disorders. PLEASE be sure your son is under the care of a CHILD/ADOLESCENT psychiatrist. Children are MUCH harder to diagnose and treat due to the constant growing and developement. I would seriously recommend a second opinion for your son by the above type of doc.
I hope things get better for you soon, keep in touch!
Ive tried to stop but i do it without noticing at first and during stress. When i was a kid i would suck my thumb and twirl my hair or my moms also did the poking. Right now some things are going on in my sons life that are really heartbreaking and its gotten worse. Im on medication for anxiety and have been for over 10 yrs. Im asuming maybe these thing might have somthing to do with it? I can tell u a long story from where it all started i was sexually asulted by a best friends dad when i was a child and now my son who is 14 is going through it his dads nephew confessed to sexually abuseing my son when my son was 11 but hes not being charged cause my son has no memorise of it also after all that my son now is being accused of sexual asulting his half sister when he was 11on top of all this my sons been diagnose with adjustment disorder also in the past hes been diagnose with O.d.d., bipolar and hdhd and im just soo stressed and heartbroken also i feel alone dealing with it even though im not, im really lost
You saying this relaxes you give me the idea that this behavior is linked to OCD. You have this compulsion to poke your eyes, lips and ears with your hair, hyou ever tried to stop doing it? If so, were you ever successful even for a little while or would it totally drive you crazy not to do it?
