I had a near death experience a while ago and I have been on Xanax for about 2 years now and i am up to 1MG pills 3 times a day... I feel the symptoms of anxiety have changed a bit and can not tell if they are trully anxiety symptoms or if they are withdrawal symptoms b/c my body is so use to it now and it tells me when it wants more..

I can only support very strongly what both tia and cj have said. SLOW is the only way to get off Xanax and your doctor MUST understand that this is YOUR taper and you must do it at YOUR rate and within YOUR comfort zone. That means if you get down to the next lower dose and need to stay at that level for a few weeks or a few months or however long YOU feel you need to stay there, then do not let your doctor "hurry" you along. We all "decompress" at different rates...........there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" taper...........so do it YOUR way. Because that is the ONLY way to succeed with a Xanax taper.
I know what you're going through. Just hang in there, OK? It does get better.

Just keep on weaning yourself off very slowly with the consultation with your doctor.  When I weaned off of another benzo like xanax, I went back to the doctor and actually asked if I could go even slower which minimized the withdrawals.  Also, remember when you start an SSRI like Lexapro there is also an adjustment period in my experience.  You seem to have it under control though; you said that you are down to .25mgs....that's great!

I can only comment on what happened to me and I was only on it for a short period of time.  A little over 2 months.  I did just try to stop and had some withdraw symptoms so I had to just take a 1/2 a tabet away every three days.  Once I got down to the lowest dose possible I even halved that for a few days then stopped.  I did it very slowly and when I was done the last pill I didn't notice anything.  Like I said it was only for a short time and I weaned very slowly.  Good luck.
