Anxiety

I have been suffering from anxiety for over a week now and my doctor increased my dose of Effexor from 37.5mg to 75mg.  I have been having these crazy thoughts about random weird things.  That is usually what happens when my anxiety gets out of whack.  One day I just had this thought that when I talk I hear the words one way and everyone else hears them a different way.  It sounds so crazy but I can't get this out of my head.  It is making feel very alone and not connected to people.

Thanks.  I talked to my doctor today and she said if I don't feel better in two weeks to come back and we will reassess the medication.  I have OCD and the anxiety triggers the thoughts.  I just think it is because I feel so unreal right now.  This is the worst part of anxiety for me.  I feel so out of touch and I am very impatient when I feel like this.  I just want it to go away as fast as possible.  I know it takes time it just feels like an eternity.  Thanks again.

If your doctor just increased your dose of Effexor due to the week of anxiety, understand that it's going to take time for the new dose to help.   Ask your doctor if he/she can prescribe you a mild anti-anxiety med to help you while that gap is being bridged.

Be sure to tell the doctor about your "weird" thoughts. I'm not sure if that is a common side effect and it's possible you have a sensitivity to this particular medication. If that is the case, she will taper you off the Effexor and try a different medication.

Many of us have difficulties of one kind or another while we wait for our bodies to adjust to antidepressants. You just need to find out from your doctor if what you're experiencing is normal. Feeling alone IS a very common aspect of anxiety.
Be strong, hang in there.
