I have tried and gotten off of Paxil in the past. However, after a few months of being anti-depressant free, the panic attacks and depression returned so I have recently started taking Paxil again. The way to get off Paxil is to use a VERY slow taper method. When I was doing it, I would take it down by about 5 mg every two weeks. When I got toward the lower doses I asked my doctor for a liquid prescription of Paxil due to the pill pieces being too small to cut anymore. I had a few set backs where I had to go back up a few milligrams due to the dizziness and the "zaps". I also had to use a benzo once in a while b/c I was so stressed trying to do all of this. I'm not sure I'm really a successs story or who you need to hear from since I had to go back on the medication, but just wanted to give you my experience:) Hope this helps:)
I was on paxil over a decade before I weened myself off. I did it just about like molsonpup55 did, except even slower. It took me almost 10 months because I didn't want it to totally disrupt my household/family---I'd had a friend end up in a psych ward for a week by going off it cold turkey.
When I got completely off, I began taking St John's Wort. I also did a lot of proactive things while going off of it such as use this site as a resource, begin an exercise program, start meditating, quit smoking, cut down on caffeine, do breathing exercises.
