Thank you so very much! And best to you too!
I am absolutely thrilled that you are feeling better dear. Keep plugging along and you will get there. Remember that you will have a bad day here and there even when your treatment is working but they should be less intense and less frequent.
Again, so very happy for you that your treatment is starting to work. It takes a while to get to therapeutic levels so you will hopefully feel even better.
yes, try the yoga and the journaling. All the best and peace to you dear
Thank you so much, deep down that is what I always thought that I really need to wait for the meds to slowly start working LOL, but my intrusive thoughts scare me by saying it won't. I have taken it for 5 days now and I feel a lot better. And motivated to do things. I never thougt of the journal things so I might do that! And the yoga. Thank you!
Yes I have been medically diagnosed as having OCD along side Anxiety/Depression. It's called pure O. I don't necessarily have to have compulsions that people can see. While I do get anxious it's mental acts that I seem to do. Which is "constant praying to God". The meds seem to slowly be working and I feel a lot better with the meds and therapy. Thank you for the help!
Hello, it's been about 5 days since I've used the meds and I feel that it's slowly working, which for me is great!!!
And no it's no harm whatsoever thoughts. I actually see my doctor next thursday and along with the Luvox I'm taking half of a pill of .5mg xanax. And it seems like it's working for me. THANK YOU for the advice it means a lot to me! And to be honest I think I'm beginning to feel like my old self again!
But once again thank you!!
You say you were diagnosed with OCD, but do you really have it? OCD isn't just obsessive thinking, all us anxiety sufferers have that, but you have to also do repetitive actions that if you don't do them you get very anxious. That's why you were prescribed Luvox, because it got approved for OCD, but it is very rarely used in the US and has many contraindications with other meds unlike other ssris, as greenlydia pointed out. It also has the shortest half life in the body of any ssri, so it has to be very carefully dosed and taken. I only ask this because I had a quack psychiatrist try to put me on this med but he had already messed me up badly so I researched it first and passed. It might be just the thing for you, but it's important to make sure. Good luck.
Who diagnosed you and who prescribed this medication for you?
Was yesterday also the first time you've ever been on a psychotropic medication?
When did you begin seeing the therapist?
Sorry, I realize it sounds like I'm giving you the 3rd degree, but I'm angry because ALL of the questions you are asking us SHOULD have been answered by whomever diagnosed you and/or the therapist.
We see this happening more and more where people are diagnosed with pretty major mental health issues, handed some pills and pretty much just shoved out the door and it's just plain wrong and very bad "doctoring" in my opinion.
Since I don't know what specific OCD thoughts you are concerned about, I can't answer your question with any degree of CERTAINTY that they are or aren't true. But you stated that your therapist DID tell you they were NOT true, so you need to hang onto that and believe in that.
( If you are having ANY thoughts related to suicide, or harming another person, you need to call either your doctor or your therapist IMMEDIATELY!)
If the Luvox doesn't work, there are numerous other medications that can be tried.
It may take anywhere from 2-3 WEEKS for the Luvox to reach therapeutic levels. You must also keep in mind that we are all different in how we react to these types of meds. You may begin to feel some relief around 2 weeks, but it could also be closer to 4 weeks. There is no way to predict exactly when you will begin to feel better. When we begin taking an SSRI, we have to be patient, which is very difficult.
The way you are feeling right now is very normal for someone just diagnosed with your trifecta. You hit saturation level, and until the Luvox kicks in, is there any way you can see your therapists a couple times a week to help you through this rough patch?
You might ask your doctor if there is something you could take along with the Luvox to help calm you down, but my med books all say that you cannot add a benzo (anti-anxiety med) to Luvox.
Perhaps since you've only been on the Luvox one or two days, they could switch you to something else that WOULD allow you to also take a benzo. It would be worth asking since it sounds like you're in pretty rough shape right now.
PLEASE go to our OCD Forum and talk with some of the folks over there. They will be able to help you because they understand what you are going through. Type "URGENT" in the title box so people will know you need help ASAP.
Call your doctor and let them know how you are doing.
And stay in touch with the OCD Forum or us for support.
We'll help you through this and you'll be fine, OK? I promise.
Peace

so, keep with it and give the medication a chance. Intrusive, obsessive worry is difficult to handle. Keep a journal of what you are feeling as it is a good way to vent and release the thoughts. And that is what you need to think of them as, releasing and setting them free outside of yourself.
I'd also try some relaxing things like yoga or meditation during this period of time that it takes for your medication to work (and after as it is very beneficial). Exercise regularly as well.
peace and luck to you and let us know how it goes.
