Question on ABA therapy

Hi Everyone-  I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy.  He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now.  I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA.  I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated.  Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.  Now he's still getting speech and physical therapy with the ABA and now he gets OT as well.  His sister hasn't been diagnosed with anything, which I am very glad about.  She's doing very well.  I know he's progressed quite a bit because of all the months of early intervention he got, but I just wish he'd point better and have more eye contact, etc.  I know I have to give it more time, but I think if I here some success stories I will feel better.

Thanks!

Hi!  Thank you so much for responding.  I've been checking this everyday in hopes of a response.  Anyway, I'm glad your son has been doing really well with the DIR Floortime.  He sounds like my little guy with the frustration.  I know my son doesn't like demands placed on him.  I will continue with the ABA until he ages out and go from there.  It sounds like your doing the right thing.  By the way, what does the DIR stand for?  Also, was your son diagnosed with PDD-NOS?  I'm just curious and I would be interested to see how your son progresses along.  Thanks again for getting back to me!

Hi. My son was diagnosed at 2 also and we did ABA for 6 months. He made some progress in the beginning and then became very frustrated and did not want to follow the lead. We kept trying but I felt like I wasnt getting anywhere. They told me it wasnt working so anyway as my son was getting traumatised we finally got into DIR Floortime after being on a waitlist. It was amazing!!! He now goes to floortime 2xper week and has speech therapy also. He has made great gains as with this they engage him on a socio emotional level. I will go back to ABA but its more important to get this engagement happening otherwise they are just doing stuff but dont know why. It is worth looking into as you will really see the benefits,
