Autism hitting and other

My son who has autism has been having problems at school with striking teachers and students.. He has now started to also bring this behavior home and I am having a hard time dealing with this.  We go from hugs to a fist in the face and it is just beond my reasoning of why. I am a single mother and I work 40hr a week and I am starting to believe that I may have to quit my job if this behavior doesn't change.  I am at wits end and I need help..... and time out doesn't work anymore.... What next?

Give more information about your son's school.  Is there a Behavior Analyst on staff to help determine the function of your son's behavior.  Besides the teacher, that is the next person I would reach out to for help.

You are not alone!
I'm also a single parent with a seven year old child that has the autism spectrum disorder. His behavior has become more aggressive, he hits the teachers assistants and recently tried to hit me because I would't allow him to run through the church santuary. He is in a special education classroom with other children with the same conditions. His teacher would like for me to start the process of medicating him, but I'd rather use that ticket as a last resort. He also has ABA therapy once a week - behavior therapy with a therapist. He is very smart and does things if he thinks that he can get away with it. I am currently trying different suppliments like l-theanine, vitamins, and fish oil. I 'm also keeping a journal. He had a very good day at school yesterday.

What is his sensory system like.  Is he over or under sensitive in any of his senses.  Does he cover his ears at sounds, or appear deaf.  Is he touch sensitive or does he appear not to feel pain.  Does he complain of smells and tastes of food.  Is his balance and co-ordination okay.  I ask these questions because alot of the 'autistic behaviours' and tantrums can be down to getting overwhelmed with incoming sensory stimulus, or in sensory seeking behaviour because they aren't getting enough information through the senses.
My son also used to complain about being in church because of the acoustics.  He cannot bear to hear group singing because of the quantity of different sound sources.  I gave him a pair of DIY ear defenders, the kind you were to protect your ears from noise, and he has been alot better in these types of environments.
