I have never heard of a blue tint in the eye ever being linked to autism.  That sounds like an urban myth to me.  Head banging could be a manifestation of some of the deficits associated with autism but so could many other things.  The 3 criteria for diagnosing autism are:  impairments in speech, language and communication skills, impairments in social skills and odd or restricted interests and behaviors.  You can check the criteria for autism in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) for more in depth details.  If you are concerned that this 22 month old may have autism, check with the child's peditrician and if you are not satisfied with that answer, consult a developmental peditrician.

The head butting may be, but it may not... (you can read my journals about what things lead up to me getting self injurous)

My suggestion: remain calm throughout the process. If you see his temper flaring up, don't let your temper mount up... This is hard I know...

But if he/she is anything like me, my frustration and anger builds off of not just the original incident that caused my anger, but also the reaction I get.  The more anxious you get, the more anxious I get, and it just gets worse until one of us feels like a trapped wild animal.

Huh???  I've never heard that being linked with autism.  Could you please let me know where you found that from?  I'm really curious.

I want to read the source where you got that gem.
