Why will my thrush not go away???

I have had thrush in my mouth for four months now.  My tongue is coated and has several bumps on it.  I also have a blister on the roof of my mouth and under my tongue is bothering me too.  My doctor has given me different medications, but nothing has helped.  I have a IGG deficiency and have had two IV injections of antibodies, but still no improvement in my mouth.  Does anyone know anything about this and what will help?

Hi Lene,

I feel for you, I really do.  I have oral Lichen Planus which is rare.  Only 1% of the general population have it.

I have tried all of the 'traditional' treatments to control it and NOTHING worked.  It was so uncomfortable and  debilitating.

One of the traditional treatments left me with the worst case of oral thrush known to man.....:(

The good news is I fixed it and here is how......

I started taking a daily dose of Black Elderberry

I also commenced Vitamin C therapy.  1000mgs per day in the am.

I got myself an SLS free,  all natural toothpaste

I stopped taking any form of Ibuprofen (after reading it can cause LP and or Oral Thrush) in patients with autoimmune disease.  It was a long shot, but I was prepared to try anything.

After about 4 days of this regime, I started to notice that my blisters were shrinking and my gums stopped bleeding!   It was working.

After 2 weeks I was pretty much symptom free.

I did an experiment shortly after and stopped the Black Elderberry for  a week and took some Ibuprofen for a headache.  Sure enough, within days the thrush and LP was starting to return.

Black Elderberry should be readily available from any health food store, if not you can buy lozenges called Sambucol, which have both Vit C and Black Elderberry in them, they work a treat.

One other thing, I should mention is that I eat garlic everyday for it's anti bacterial properties.  It's easy to incorporate in most meals.

Good Luck, I hope some of this may help :)

Hi Lene.

Glad you posted more details.

OK, there are a few different issues, you're facing.

1. The pain management.
2. Opioid/pain med addiction and related withdrawal effects
3. Antibiotics overuse and Candidiasis
4. IgG deficiencies

I will message you with some specific information, but meanwhile as you're getting your IVIG treatments, you may want to consider, besides the anti-candida diet, to look into an alkaline diet (these 2 are similar and they overlap quite a bit), as it will probably help with other issues as well. One thing that I find, is that pain sensing is usually lowered when on an alkaline diet.

Take care.

I've from Alabama near Birmingham.  I've had four back surgeries since 2008.   I have chronic back pain and have been on two hydrocodone daily, except for about three months. I was sent to a pain specialist.   He tried me on 4 different pain meds.  I wasn't able to take them. When I went back to hydrocodone,  I went through awful withdrawals.  I had terrible panic attacks and felt like I had the flu.  This went on for months. I have not felt right since.  The panic attacks changed into anxiety attacks.  I was on clonazepam for a couple of years.  I managed to get off of them a couple of months ago.  I had a UTI in 2012 and had 3 bags of antibiotics before it cleared up. This was the first time I remember having a hard time getting over anything.  I then had  a sore throat for three months in a row, legs aching.  Sinus infections over and over.   I've been dealing with head pressure in the afternoon.  During the pressure headaches, I feel anxious. Five months ago, after a CT scan, I was told I had sinusitis.  I went to a ENT doctor and was given an antibiotic.  After I had taken it for 2 weeks, I became very sick and my legs were hurting.  That's when I got the thrush in my mouth.  Every time I take antibiotics now, I get very sick and my legs ache very badly. I went to an infectious disease doctor that told me I had a IGG deficiency and had me to start the IVIG injections. I'm sorry this is so long, but if you are going to figure out things for me, you probably need to know. I know during all this something happened to me, and I can't get back feeling right.

lene54, I can almost guarantee to you that if you do not follow a strict ant-fungal diet, you will not get out of it.
If you continue to feed your the yeast with carbs and sugars, no matter what drugs you take, it will be an uphill battle.

If you had issues with addictions in the past, this my dear is deja vu x 2.
There's an addictive aspect of Cadidiasis, where the yeast is playing you.
It is messing with your brain, creating cravings for carbs and sweets mainly, for its own purposes.

You gotta dig deep within you, to find the strength to persevere.

Tell me more about yourself, your past and where you live.
I'm not prying into your personal life, I'm just trying to figure out things for you, from a health and wellness perspective.

For starters, go to the normal breathing website. It will give you exercises
to learn how to breath properly, if you stick with it, till it becomes automatic.
Your breathing patterns are likely incorrect, is greatly affecting you.
This will help with the anxiety and with physical issues.

More next time you post again.

Hang in there, it seems tough at first, but it gets better.

Take care.

I did really well for a couple of months with my eating.  After the yeast came in my mouth, I didn't want anything sweet.  I barely wanted anything to eat.  I didn't see any improvement even with taking all the antifungal meds.  Now, I guess I decided nothing was going to get rid of this.  I started back eating some sweets.

Yes, I would like some tips and recommendations for relaxation and stress reduction.  I have had panic attacks and then anxiety attacks.  I have been on medication.  I haven't taken any in about 6 wks.

I don't know where a Naturopathic Doctor is in this area.

Hi Lene54.

You're welcome.
The anti-fungals are not working fast enough (all the meds he prescribed you, are anti-fungals).
The yeast/fungal imbalance with your ongoing stress and anxiety, is not shifting "your" way, as their numbers are still up.
It will take a comprehensive treatment plan for many months to overcome this.

You pressure in  your head, the sluggishness, the fatigue, the sinuses
the nervousness, could be all caused by Candidiasis.

Usually conditions like yours take years to develop, so it will take a minimum of one month per year of development, not onset of symptoms ( note that at first, it is unsymptomatic).
So let's say it took 10 years to develop (usually a couple courses of antibiotics will trigger the onset of symptoms faster), therefore expect
a minimum of  10 months of treatment.
Every time you're overly stressed, you consume foods or drinks or even medications, which contain yeast, molds, carbs, you are regressing.

Practice checking everything you put in your body to be absolutely safe!
Practice relaxation and stress reduction.
If you need tips and recommendations, let me know, as this is the area of my expertise.
You can do it, you just need to cross that mental line.
I know what it is like, because I have been there.

Does your financial situation allow you to see a Naturopathic Doctor perhaps?
Something to consider, if you feel things are not progressing within a few weeks.

Cheers,
Niko

I took diflucan for 21 days, nystatin, and two prescriptions of clotrimazole tablets.  I have had thick mucus.  That is the only thing that has just recently improved.  I would get up every morning very sick, my nose running, thick mucus in my mouth.  I'm still sick and have to drag myself out of bed every morning.  It takes me about 30 minutes before I can force myself to get a shower.  I have problems every day with pressure in my head too.  Also, I feel very nervous at time.  Especially first thing in the morning and in the afternoon.   I don't know why I'm telling you all this, but I just hope it helps you to understand more about me.

The Infectious Disease Specialist did blood test and determined I have two IGG subclasses that are low.  He said I had plenty of white blood cells, but nothing to tell them where to go to fight infection. I thought maybe after the injections, it would help this yeast.   I have been sick for almost two years.  The yeast has been in my mouth for four months.  I feel like no one knows what to do to help me.  I ordered the caprylic acids capsules you told me about.

Thanks again for responding to me.

Everything affects everything.

A fungal/yeast overgrowth is usually the underlying factor, which if left
un-addressed becomes a serious fungal infection over time.
Usually benign, yeast in such a case, can become a destructive fungal infectious pathogen, leading to a systemic infectious condition, candidiasis, which comes with a variety of possible symptoms such as fatigue, G/I and digestive issues, mental fog,  fungal skin infections like oral or vaginal thrush, itchiness and many more!
Not everyone experiences all the symptoms.

So yes, it's possible that's at least one of the causes.

Did the Infectious Disease specialist do tests to check for immuno-deficiencies? That's usually the field of a Hematologist, but the Infectious Disease specialist should be knowledgeable enough in this as well.
Or was the IVIG treatment prescribed as a diagnostic challenge?

And what meds did your regular doctor prescribe?

It takes time and discipline to correct this, but first try the "saliva test for candida" to self -test. The more stringy the saliva is -without dissolving fast- the worse it usually is. Just follow the online instructions precisely.

Any questions, just post again anytime!

Cheers.
Niko

Thanks for all this information.  I really wish I had a good doctor that understood what was going on with me.  My regular doctor gave me all the usual things for thrush, but none worked.  The infectious disease doctor told me to get three IVIG injections, and have my blood drawn again.  I haven't seen him since. I will see if I can find Undecylenic and Caprylic Acids  online. Do you think whatever is going on with my system, that is causing me to keep the thrush, is also causing me to feel sick?  I have fatigue really bad too.

Hey lene54.

Sorry to read about all this.
Listen, it might be  a herxing effect, an allergic reaction or something entirely  different, unrelated to the coconut oil.
If coconut oil (must be extra virgin organic, as you may be reacting to
cheaper  overly processed and/or deodorized coconut oils) is offensive
to you, then consider doing this:

Dr. Cocoa's Pulse Test (simplified version as the full version takes a week)
Just sit in a chair and come to rest for about 5 minutes. Take your pulse for a full 1 minute (not the 15 sec. multiply by 4 thing). Then put whatever you want to test in your mouth and chew it for 30 seconds.
If a liquid, swish instead.
Then take your pulse again. If you find it is faster by 6 beats, you are very likely allergic or have a sensitivity to it.
If you have type “O” blood, use 4 beats as the criteria instead of 6.
It’s that simple.

So in the event, you are reacting to it, try either a higher quality as I mentioned, or try swishing with high quality palm oil (not the red one, which is high in anti-oxidants but not specific enough for thrush).
You may also look into Undecylenic and Caprylic Acids in capsules, as a supplement, if you cannot take coconut oil. (Cheaper than meds and as effective or better)

FYI as a reference only for Probiotics, look up online "Progressive Nutritional HCP Symbiotic Kit", a product that I have personally used with success, each and every time. This way you will know what to look for in the one you'll buy.

Also, if you're not getting one or preferably 2 bowel movements a day, you may need to do a colon cleanse. Just check at health food stores for this.

Unfortunately, I don't know specifically if your IVIG treatment can target
fungal infections effectively.

Finally, I suggest that you consume the freshest possible organic foods, stir clear from sugars , starches, carbs as much as you can.
A Fungus needs sugar/carbs to grow and survive.

One more thing, in the event of your intestinal lining is getting compromised, intestinal permeability is possible, which causes the immune system
(IgG mediated but delayed reaction making it unlikely to link to this!!!) to cross react with any mold or yeast molecules from your food.
So since you are on IVIG, this is something to be aware of, since few doctors will be able to establish this connection, when it is not evident and they are not looking for it!

Best wishes.

I have tried the coconut oil.  Just using it once a day blisters the inside of my mouth.  I continued to use it for a few days until I just couldn't take it anymore. I saw no improvement. Also, have taken probiotics, but it wasn't the type that takes refrigeration. I will try that.  I haven't taken antibiotics during this. When this first happened, I couldn't stand to eat anything sweet.  I really didn't eat much of anything.  I lost 10 lbs.  It seems nothing helps. I'm hoping after the next IVIG injection, I will finally see some improvement.  I feel so bad I can hardly make it through a day.  Does thrush make you feel sick? Thanks for your comments.

Hi lene54.

Yes, do 3 x daily Coconut Oil Pulling. Look up oil pulling. Swish vigorously
for 20 minutes each time and then rinse real good!
You also must adhere to a strict sugar-free, carb-free diet, no diet stuff,
no artificial sugars, no antibiotics (antibiotics are mold-based and contribute greatly to thrush)
Use extra virgin coconut oil for oil pulling and also in your daily diet.use it in place of pro-inflammatory cooking oils.
Coconut oil is one of the best anti-fungal agents and it is also anti-microbial, anti-parasitic and anti-viral!

Some prescription may make the thrush worse.
What drugs were you prescribed and are you on anything else?

Probiotics of high quality will also help, but they must be of the type they need refrigeration , multi-strain and in the tens of billions count.

And reducing stress will help tremendously, as stress is a co-factor.
Try nature walks, listening to soft music, meditation, ample rest, avoiding triggers, watching comedies, reading, etc.

Hope this helps, however, this is not intended to replace medical advice.

Best wishes.
