Thanks for always being thoughtful and full of knowledge!
I probably have IBS.... I have been having stomach issues, then it stopped, now it's back and I see a Gastro. end of May, so that will be another series of test, with a conclusion of IBS..... most likely. I already diagnosed myself with that... Only thing is I don;t have diarrhea or constipation. Other than that, I'm text-book for IBS... But, of course the docs are gonna run blood tests and maybe even due some outpatient tests (again!!) I already looked up Plaquenil and it effects, but I did NOT look up any sites where actual patients stated their personal side effects, so I will do that! Good advice!
Hi Alison,
I'm Glad and Sorry at the same time that you got DX'd!
Glad that nobody can tell you it's in your head-in other words you're crazy!
and on the other hand Sorry as there's no "medical cure" and the only medical answer (from what you posted anyway) is Plaguenil.
A medical "sentence" in a way.
But again that is from the conventional medicine perspective.
Re: Plaquenil
Go to the ask a patient website to check out the various comments on the use of Plaquenil. Do your own drug interaction checking as your doctor and pharmacist might not check it for you (it is so common nowdays), until you suffer from a serious side effect.
Lupus and Fibro Dx. Interesting! Hm. Have your Homocysteine levels
checked. It has been implicated in Lupus,CFS, FMS, RA, Raynaud's
heart disease and other serious diseases.
If homocysteine high you're also deficient in B12 which is needed in every cell of your body for building proteins , red blood cells (majority of Lupus and Fibro patients have low blood volume measuring well below the low normal range of 25ml of red blood cells per Kg of body weight), and normal functioning of the nervous system. And probably supplementation won't correct it, as you may have a metabolic and assimilation issue. Likely cause is lack of Intrinsic Factor production which is needed for the intestines to absorb vitamin B12.
Other causes:
intestinal dysbiosis,
leaky gut and/or gut inflammation,
atrophic gastrits or hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)
pernicious anemia (autoimmune condition)
medications (especially PPIs and other acid-suppressing drugs)
alcohol, exposure to nitrous oxide (during surgery or recreational use).
If we were to use Japanese standards for low B12 (lower limit 500-550 pg/mL), then100% of Fibro sufferers would be considered B12 deficient!!!
Levels between 200 pg/mL and 350 pg/mL are considered normal in N. America!!! I have my suspicions as of why that is.
The next paragraph may provide some more evidence, suggesting other
possible underlying causes. Once the underlying causes are identified,
then eliminating them, should bring about the collapse of the symptoms associated with the condition.
Connection to "Leaky Gut" Syndrome: Epidemiological studies have confirmed that patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) frequently overlap with fibromyalgia (FM), suggesting some commonality. Fibromyalgia occurs in up to 60 percent of patients with functional bowel disorders. Up to 50 percent of patients with a diagnosis of FM syndrome complain of symptoms characteristic of functional dyspepsia, and 70 percent have symptoms of IBS.(8) These patients usually have an abnormal microbial population in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which results in dysbiosis. This can cause digestive problems and a leaky gut, which can cause multiple food allergies, weakened immunity, increased toxicity, psychological disturbances, nutrient depletions, and low energy.
