BC while waiting to TTC again

Hi ladies.  I have a few questions.

So, my midwife said that she wants me to wait 4 cycles before we TTC again.  She thinks that if I wait 4 good cycles, it will help thicken my uterine lining.  It isn't known for sure that I have a thin lining, but since I just miscarried, she says that it's a good idea (and since I had a blighted ovum and d&c in may of this year).  So, my question, what is the best method of bc that won't mess me up while I'm taking off a few months?  I mean DH and I don't really use BC anymore because we believe that it will happen when it happens (and also because it just messes me up).  I know that we won't use condoms because....well, we just won't.  I don't want to thin my lining any further or mess my hormones up or decrease my chances of conceiving.  But, at the same time, I don't want to get pregnant right away only to have ANOTHER miscarriage.  Ideas?

How long after m/c started did you get your next period?

Also, any ways to thicken my lining naturally?

Thanks ladies for your help.  I'm so scared to try again, but at the same time, I want to....ugh...this bites.

Thanks bam...Yea...that would have been torture!  I will for sure keep you posted.  Since I decided I won't tell ANYONE when it happens again (except DH), you guys will know for sure.  It will kill me not to be able to tell people...haha.  So I can release on MH.

Good luck with everything!  I'm glad you don't have to wait 4 cycles.  I can't imagine the kind of torture that would have been!

Thank you guys for all the input.  Yea, midwife didn't say she wanted me on BC, she just said that she wanted me to wait at least one cycle.  At first she said 4, but when I spoke to her yesterday, she said just to wait one.  And she suggested avoiding intercourse for 2 days before and after ovulation.  So, sounds like that's what we will do.  I hope everything goes ok!

I agree with hudsy, pull out and avoiding the days of ovulation. I'm surprised they want to put you on BC. I had a D&C when i miscarried in march. Got my AF about a month after. The only think my dr told me was to wait one cycle and he stated if we didn't not a big deal they only suggest that to be able to determine conception but that they could always figure it out with the ultrasound. Well i waited for AF and then we started TTC. IT took me 6 months to become pregnant again.

going back on BC makes me nervous for you! I conceived 2 weeks after going off the pill and I think it threw off my hormones, it was crazy and I'm not saying that's why I MC'd but BC does so much to your body, and if you want your body to get back to normal the last thing I would think would help would be going on it. Condoms do suck, it kills the moment everytime we used them. Pull out method in conjunction w/ avoiding the days right around ovulation may be a good combo. Good luck on your long wait!

yea 4 cycles seems like forever...and I didn't have a d&c or anything.  Main reason she said that is because I told her that I am convinced that the reason I have lost 2 babies this year (after never having problems before and delivering 2 healthy boys), is because of the Mirena.  I really have heard so so so so so so sooooo many problems after Mirena removal.  So, she said that she can't fairly blame my losses on the Mirena, but if I really feel that it thinned my lining, then waiting a good 4 cycles should help thicken the lining.  I think that I will be super careful before my first cycle, and then after that, maybe pull out method for a few months? I don't know...grrrrr.....

I would use condoms too.  I would caution against going back on bc because when you get off of it it might take your body a little longer to adjust.  I'm surprised they wanted our to wait 4 cycles...I would just do what you feel is right and I hope the time flies by! :)  Good luck!

i'm with you on that...except I don't think it's the safest method if I'm really trying to be careful

but sure sounds the best :-p

My doc suggested bc pills - only because i don't ovulate on my own and he wants me to have a period before I start trying again.  He didn't suggest waiting for 4 months...I guess he thinks like I do.  It took 3 years to get pregnant again, the likelihood of it happening this month is slim to none.

We go back next Monday (2 weeks after the d&c) and I'll see what my ovaries are doing.  If by some miracle they are growing good follies, I think we will just try naturally.  If they are just there, like I think they will be, I will go on the pill for 2 weeks and then once I start my period after that we'll start back up with Femara which helps the lining from thinning out.

Good luck - I don't know anything about condoms anymore =).  My daughter is 5 so we haven't used them for about year!  I would feel like a teen again going to buy them.

LOL...I could try!!  That's hard though!  DH was in Iraq for 8 months and just came home in mid October.  I missed it...I'll leave it at that.  LOL.

It's not that I have an issue with condoms per se, it's just that I know that we won't always use one because I know "us."  I just know that there will be times that we won't stop to get a condom.

I was just wondering if other people's doctors put them on bc of any sort in that rest period...didn't know if like the nuvaring or anything was used as a short term.

Do you think it would be possible to do the rhythm method?  I know we all learn to know our body signs for ovulation/etc when we are frantically TTC, could you use that the other way and make sure you avoid full on intercourse while you're fertile?

Just a random thought.  Otherwise, I'd just stick with the condoms.  They have lots of new 'fun' ones :)

Hi! I had my d&c 10/20 I was 10.5 weeks along.
I should be getting my period tomorrow so that would be about 8 weeks
I don't know any ways to thicken a lining naturally.
Also , I think you should use condoms. I have been using them again also. I know they are horrible I feel like a teen again I feel like I am moving backwards instead of forward. But know I know condoms is the only way from becomming prego again. They have thin ones now. Good Luck and i am sorry again for what you are going through.
