Jana - well technically progesterone won't help you GET pg, but once you ARE pg, it's necessary to support the pregnancy. How the heck does your dr know if you are fertilizing but not able to support implantation?? I'd go try to get a 2nd opinion or another doctor, IMHO!!
I went to the doctor 7 dpo and the doctor did not do a progesterone level. She said it had no impact on getting pregnant but the day I got a positive pregnancy test to start taking the progesterone. So confusing. I wish all doctors had the same advice. She did give me clomid to take for next month if I'm not pregnant this month.
I asked my doctors for a progesterone supplement to use. Although he said to use it after I knew I was pregnant, I had a nurse tell me to start using it a few days after I thought I ovulated up until I knew I was pregnant and then if I were pregnant to keep using it till about 12 weeks... it is needed for implantation. I also kept track of my temps. When I became pregnant I kept using the progesterone faithfully and it was not uncomfortable. I believe it made a difference this pregnancy.I am now 23 weeks pregnant. I am 36 now and had a MC last Dec. at 91/2 weeks/had to have D&C....then tried right away and ended up having another very early MC in Feb. 2010. So I decided to wait ....tried again April after my cycle and also started using vitex right after my second MC. I have 3 other children and never had any problems. I firmly believe it was my progesterone. I was never tested, but I had painful ovulation and my periods had been different for a few years. I am glad I took the progesterone and my Dr. said it wouldn't hurt to try it. Good luck to you ...we all know how hard it is and wish you the best.
Yes, a progesterone test is typically done at 7DPO. It can confirm whether you have O'd or not. Although if you are doing BBT, you should have a pretty good idea.
Hang in there and don't give up!!! It can take a perfectly healthy couple with zero fertility problems up to 18 months to concieve. That being said with your age (no offense), you can seek testing/treatments after 6 mos of TTC. I say go for it!
DH and I TTC'd for 3+ years before our BFP, and that was through IUI.
I think I will go in 1 week after ovulation just to get it checked and to ease my mind. I have been using ovulation kits for the past several months. They do help alot and I know I ovulated due to BBT and thought I even seen the spotting for implantation at 9 dpo but then my period came so I am just assuming something isn't right.
They did my progesterone check 1 week after ovulation, I believe.
Try using ovulation kits. You can purchase them online for very cheap! I got preggo 7-8 months after I m/c last year. It took me two cycles to get pregnant after using ovulation kits. Wish you luck in TTC. Sending lots of SSBD to you :)
