Findings from my x-ray. "There appears to be chronic to space narrowing at the L04/05 level. Degenerative arthritic changes are present in the lower facet joints.
ADVANCED ATHEROSCLEROTIC PATHOLOGY IS PRESENT.
What does that mean?????
Also, what is chronic degenerative disco genic disease evident at the L4/5 level?

I have had a cervical fusion in my neck back in 1999 so I am familiar with this surgery.
I am hoping that PT will help with this problem and nothing else will be necessary.
It is just weird that the pain is mostly when I lay on my side. Is that because of compression?
I can't sleep on my back, so I do not have much of a choice.

Degenerative disc disease is a wear and tear disease. This may be present in form of drying up of disc or it may cause protrusions from vertebral bodies called osteophytes. These osteophytes then block the foramen or opening through which spinal nerves pass.
Usually for symptoms caused by degenerative disc disease, conservative treatments like hot and cold compress, stretching exercises, back low impact exercises, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, specially designed corsets, spinal manipulation and traction and epidural injections are tried. If everything fails then laminectomy and other spine surgeries may be contemplated. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
