Memory mattrasses

Are memory mattrasses a lot better than ordinary foam mattrasses for reducing waking up with a stiff and sore back in the morning ?

Your comment answers exactly what I was wondering about the foam re-forming and re-shaping far more slowly than a person turning in bed.  I have increased my ordinary foam from 2 inches to 4 inches and wake with almost no pain now. So I am not going to even try a memory mattress.  I do hope you find improvement from the awful damage caused by the car accident.

The problem with memeory mattresses is if you move the foam does not rebound as fast as normal matrresses, so if you toss and turn at night it would not be a good for you.

Thank you for your info.  I only have spinal arthritis, nothing as serious as your affliction and thicker foam might solve my problem.

I have 2 steel rods and cage in my back along with a steel plate in my neck.  Two years ago I bought a memory foam mattress.  I used it for about three weeks and it almost did me in.  I then bought a sleep comfort bed and that was the best thing I ever did.  But as one person mentioned, some like the memory foam and have no problems

Thank you so much for your interesting info which has led me to one hour's research using Google.  A lot of different experiences of people using these beds, some very adverse, so I'm going to be doing a lot of investigating.

I was recommended by my physical therapist to get a Sleep Number bed as opposed to a Memory foam because you can set how firm or soft you want it.  I got my Sleep Number bed last November, and when I don't sleep on it (on vacation, at my parent's house), I definitely see a difference and I long for MY bed.  Sometimes they have factory sales, and we got ours for like 30% off.

I have heard people say they love them and others don't like them. My son-in-law has a lot of back problems and had major surgery on it. His mom got him a memory foam mattress topper to put over his regular mattress (he has an xtra firm mattress). It worked okay for him. I tried out one of those mattresses. It conforms to your body but as for support, I don't know. Without the support, your back would really get stressed. I would check them out in a furniture store to see how you like it. They do feel weird when you lay on them. You can get a topper to put over your mattress if you want softness and support, if you like the feel of the foam, but not a solid mattress of it. Too firm a mattress does tend to have no give and makes your body feel stiff. There are toppers made of the memory foam and what they call a feather bed topper(like a xtra thick comforter, except it is a mattress topper). I have a fbtopper on my spare bed. People that sleep on it love it. My son has back problems and he has enjoyed sleeping on it.From what I have heard, a lot of the Bed and Breakfast places use them.
