Pain Worse at Night

Hello:
For the past week, I have been having bad mid and lower back pain.  The pain started only at night and progressively got worse to include times during the day after about 20 minutes of inactivity.  It has really affected my ability to get a good night's sleep.  Also, for about a year now, I have had morning stiffness - especially the feet, left hip and back.  I am OK once I get up and moving, but I feel like an old lady (I'm only 36).
I recently got treated for a UTI.
Anyone have any ideas?  The pain seems to be intensifying as the days pass.

Thanks for the advice.  I too am an elementary school teacher - maybe I'll try the same type of approach with my Doc.
Hope you have a great school year.

Hi,
I have experienced a great deal of pain in my back, hip, leg, and ankle (among other things including fibromyalgia) for quite a long time now. The first time I went to doc w/back pain, I was put on anti-inflammatory meds which worked for a while. Next, each time it acted up, I was given a round of steroids which helped sometimes. Following an MRI, I was told a disc was buldging and pinching a nerve. This led to a lumbar epidural shot. This worked for 3 yrs (I was lucky). Then following another bad time and another MRI, I was told a disc had ruptured and that bone fragments were pressing on nerves. This meant surgery to remove the fragments. That was May of 07. I was told then that it was temporary b/c I had degenerative disc disease.
One day, about 9 yrs ago, I was fed up with hurting mostly at night and waking feeling as if I had been run over by a truck. I am an elementary school teacher, so one day at my desk around the Christmas season, I was writing notes home to parents on a Santa notepad. I had a Doc. app the next day and decided to write down ques. I got my Santa notepad and just started labeling Santa Clause. Ex. on the neck, I wrote neck hurts and etc. I went for my drs. app and just gave him the labeled Santa complete with tire tracks across his body. My dr. whom I thought would laugh looked seriously at the Santa and said I think I know what this is. He diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. He said it may have taken him a long time to diag. me if not for my Santa. He said with that, he could just see it all put together.
Anyway, I've sort of ranted on and on, but my point is that there may be something going on that radiates pain to different places and my not be your back at all. Then again, it could be back issues. Mine started out and progressivly got worse like you are describing. I hope I didn't just rant and not provide you w/ info. I just wanted to give you some things to think about talking to your dr. about.
