Shattered l4

I was in a car accident on the job car ran stop sign flipped me over and school bus hit me coming other way.
Im 45 yrs old and the doctor let the l4 heal on its own, the last catscan showed that the disc below the l4 is popping out the front and thel4 and vertabrae below it are touching in the back.
The doctor let it heal naturally, the problem im having is alot of pain in the area were i broke it and very tender tailbone, numbness in my left leg and foot and can barely move sometimes.
Would having a fusion help this.

P.S. the doctor told me i would need surgery down the road, its been 13 months since the accident.

I had my l5/s1 fused with instrumentation on feb 22nd of last year due to my spondylolisthesis which caused severe bilateral foraminal stenosis which resulted in significant bilateral root nerve compression at this level. Was a helluva recovery. Been 10 1/2 months and I've regained my legs back thank the universe. If it hadn't been caused by spondylolisthesis, I would have had other options. Doing good now.

I had a fusion at L5 S1 and still taking pain meds and was off work about 4 years. I need to add that I went back to work and have worked since. I have good days and bad but I aso know a couple people that had great success. By the way I was around your age at the time. There`s some tough therapy but you`ll get thru it.
