yes i am Egyptian. Although this mail i noticed long time ago yet i didn't respond to it because there is no need to form a discreet group as Egyptian bipolars. Besides any views posted will be found beneficial to the rest of the group. We all share the same illness.

Most of the patients diagnosed here - although they deny it - got their BP due to their pdocs ignorance  Most of them took an antidepressant which drove them manic and the rest of the story is classic i.e. the point of no return. Besides i never trust an Egyptian doctor whoever is, they handle all psych illness with the same drugs almost. I manage to control my symptoms because I didn't consult any of them for one whole year and rely upon my own reasoning. the easiest thing for them they label their pts with BP

on the contrary i was diagnosed with bp and been prescripted lamictal as my first diagnosis (which is not working for me), i'd advice you -if i may- to visit one from time to time and still rely on your own reasoning.
my thing is i don't know who to tell or if i should be talking to someone (friends or family) to support me, as the couple of people i told just took it lightly and thought that we all have what you have, its affecting my relation with others and my performance at work.
any advice on what i should do for my lifestyle, dealing with others or what to do in general...

i advise you not to talk about your BP so often with others. Here nobody understands the word, they think you are a spoiled person that''s all. At work especially they may find excuses for you at the beginning but then eventually they get fed up, simply why should they accept a so-called "handicapped" while there are "normal"ones. If you contemplate your colleagues each one of them has a certain health problem, if not diabetes then asthma or else etc...forget about what you have for a while and don't discuss it with others

Hi, I'am an egyptian form around Luxor. My brother shows all signs of bipolar disorder and in the moment is in a long during (over several month) 'manic phase'. Of course he don't want to have any help or see a doctor. The family is despaired and we don't know how to help him or bring him to see a doctor. We need advise what to do, how to speak with him, how do get him to a doctor, where to find a good doctor.  If you have formed an egyptian support group, I would be glad to join it, would be glad to get any kind of help or advise. In the end we would be happy to get a real diagnosis, because if you can name a thing it makes you less afraid.

i am surprised that you say he shows all signs of bipolar disorder yet you are not a doctor to diagnose firmly. even more strange you say he doesn't want to seek help despite the fact that BP patients are so helpless and need help. UNLESS in his manic phase he is happy, high with spending sprees , etc...  but he must have shown signs of depression at times in which he sought help.

i think you need to find a good doctor. But watch out egyptian doctors can make disasters like in my case where one gave me an antidepressant and turned me manic.

Does anyone know if there are some group Bipolar disorder therapy in Egypt ?? cause I want to know more people that share the same problem to talk to, cause other people cant seem to know what we are going through, that's why I think a group therapy will be beneficial to someone like me.

group therapy is old in egypt and performed by Al-Azhar school of pdocs. it was 1st introduced by dr shaalan who is presumably still alive. i never attended it myself though it may help of course to see others suffering from the same problem you do have. i don't know if he still does it. his disciples/students are dr adel elmedany and al-aakabawy both clinics in dokki cairo. i am not sure if they do it but i know that they practise psycho-therapy what they call Galsa in arabic. whether it helps or not i don't know as i was always skeptical about it. i myself use medications only. a known procedure practised abroad is CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) which presumably is useful. i don't think the egyptian doctors do it. the problem is that in the west BP is performed by what is called management technique, i.e. a psychiatrist along with a psychotherapist in addition to a psychophamacologist help in this. here i pity someone with BP as you go to visit a stupid pdoc who decides in 5 minutes that you have BP and the same story occurs a chain of misfortunes. in my view perhaps none of us has BP and mania/hypomania was the result of many faxctors that are very hard to track.

   I don't know how i can really get into this but i am looking for a proper and recommended treatment clinics or whatever, i am not sure that what is manifesting in me is BP maybe its depression without getting into details i only require recommendation for centers/clinics or whatever institution that could provide me with proper diagnosis and treatment,

in most situations of BP it starts with depression especially BP 2. So BP mimic depression in many of its phases including mixed states which when you feel being agressive, it just means you are depressed though your energy is high, so you think of revenge from people, etc...

my mom has bipolar and i think it's bipolar 1 but, actually she's been treated for 30 years...i just recognized the name today..i know that sounds silly but, i made some internet search and i really recognized that she's getting worse now she was recovered from it like 5 years ago and here it comes back..and she refuses to take her medications Lithium i mean ... any help suggestions ..plz ..??

Hi all,

I was trying to find any support groups for Bipolars in Egypt but I couldn't find any, so I've decided to start my own group, any one interested just reply here or PM me.

I'm aiming to have at least 5 people including myself in the first meetup (which will most probably be in a cafe or something like that) and try to make it regular (once a week or so) while expanding the group size, because I think that the only way someone will understand what we are going through is by experiencing it themselves, and talking with people that understand really helps.
