It is very good to have the thyorid checked. I have bi-polar and also have hypothyorid. I had bi-polar before I had my thyorid problem and if my thyorid is off it really sets my bi-polar off

As to the racing thoughts and fast speech and switching subjects. Those are usually part of a manic phase.
Ok. First off have this thyroid level checked. A messed up thyroid can cause many problems.
If that is ruled out then only a psych can give a DX as to if it is Bipolar.
Now for a quick run down on BP. this is a basic. Other factor's run into each person's DX.
BP1 is someone that has very, very high, highs (manic) and lows.
BP2 is someone that has moderate highs (hypomanic) and lows.
But either DX has both highs and lows it just depends on how extreme they are as to the label given. (I have been corrected on this and told some can have just one or the other)
Some ppl don't even get the fun manic they get irritable, mean and angry. It's so complicated.
It used to be called Manic Depression. They just changed the name.
It means that we have a chemical imbalance that causes our emotions to misfire. We have neutral periods that can last for a while.
It's a bit confusing.
Both can be rapid cycling meaning that they can go from one mood to the other in the same day.
Sometimes it can happen many times in one day.
Others can stay in a mood for days on end or months.
Toss in some anxiety, other disorders like BPD, PTSD. OCD, ADD. Stir well, bake at 350 for 4 hours.
Not trying to make light of it, sorry. Make an appointment with a psych for an eval.
