cutting is addictive because it relaeses certain chemicals in the body...
I think it is pretty common amoung young people and teens.....
sometimes parent over react to the situation tho
I'm 19 but
I've been bipolar since I was 11 but didn't start cutting until I was 13 I did it whenever I was real
depressed throughout hischool I would cut my arms and legs the last time I can was at the age of 16....
I would recomend seeing a psychiatrist getting on some medication for bipolar if you aren't already....if you still feel the need to cut talk to your family about getting a therapist who specialises in this type of thing

My 16 year old cut until she was treated for her Bipolar Disorder. Once she was on medication she stopped almost completely. On really, really bad days she still has episodes. You definitely need to find seek help and talk to someone.

Cutting is a symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder.  It is usually followed by another mental illness such as Bi-Polar Disorder.  BPD is usually stems from childhood trumatic events that causes the outlet of becoming a cutter.  Please see a psychiatrist to get an evaluation and the proper medication.  Best wishes, Kristen BSW

that's interesting about psychiatrists.  notsurewhy is a lady and prefers lady shrink-docs. i'm a lady and i much prefer men-docs because they aren't all feely with the emotions. Alishaneedshelp, i used to cut when i was a teen.  It will get better when you get the support you need.  The tension and pressure to cut doesn't build up as fast and hard.  It will get better.

Darling, does your family know what is going on with you? If not and you need to talk about what is going on with you I am here for you. Add me as your friend and we can chat. I lived a girl when I was younger and she did the same type of thing. Fantastic mate and just needed to be acknowleged. You know you only need one person to really care to realise that life isn't as bad as it all seems. The mood swings change from one day to the other and when you have meds under control which you need life does start to look good. You-know you can go to the doctors on your own. I like women doctors myself when it comes to gyno and I think being your age if you can find a woman doctor it would be a lot better for you as they are more understanding. Psychiatrist's yes but one step at a time darling. If you need to talk I am here for you.

Well anything can lead to cutting I am sure. Stress, family, school, and especially being bipolar. I am 17 and was diagnosed about  years ago? Yeah, I think 2 years, and I have gotten to those extreme lows where I feel hurting myself is the only way to feel any sort of relief whatsoever. You definitely need to get to a psychiatrist ASAP. Go to counseling, talk to your parents or a family member or even a friend who you can trust. Or talk to any of us on here. We know how you feel.

Sincerely,
Danielle
