Bi Polar onset after surgery and pain medications

My daughter had surgery Feb 18, and immediatley began exhibiting unusual behavior.  Within weeks everything was magnified, incessant talking, dilusional, angry, unusual behavior and making impulsive poor decisions. She was just hospitalized yesterday.  I am very concerned that a manic bipolar state was perhaps triggered because of the combination of pain medications and perhaps her anti depressant.  Looking for suggestions or tests that can be run. Wondering if there are any studies underway regarding the connection between hydrocodone or oxycodone?

Desperate for help and answers.

Anti-depressents trigger mania when used w/o a mood stabilizer.  How long has she been on them? I have not heard of pain medications causing bipolar to surface, but they are addictive.  I do know that there is no connection for hydro or oxycodone.  This could be medically induced somehow and not be bipolar but a reaction to the meds.  The doctors in the hospital will be able to evaluate her and help her to feel better.  If she was diagnosed with just depression within six months ago and put on anti-depressents then if mania is coming out, that would fit the bill.  If she has been on them for a longer length of time you can probably rule out bipolar disorder.  I happen to be bipolar and a social worker, so this is what I do.  I research and spread awarness about being bipolar.  Also I am going into the mental health field.  Take care.

If she was taking too many of the pain pills they can cause a manic like state.  It's the same as taking amphetamines.

AD's can also cause mania in ppl who don't have BP.  The incorrect dosage or drug for that person.

Would make sure they check into that first, before anything else.

Also if she had some kind of surgery that would affect hormones of any kind.  Ovaries and thyroid jump to mind.  Anything that would cause a hormone dump.
