Thanks I will talk to his Dr.and let you know what he said.
Hi I was on the Risperdal a few years back and I was one of those people that it did make quite restless and agitated..
I would speak to the doctor, some people can cope with the side effects of a new med whereas other's can't. My doctor knows that even if I don't sleep properly just for a few nights it can cause big problems so he took me straight back off it..
I guess it's the same scenario for your son, if you think he can cope with insomnia then the doc might want you to stick with it, but if your son doesn't cope very well then he might want to change things..it's all very individual!
Good luck!
Ok the meds he is on can cause insomnia (reperidone) the other can cause restlessness. I would certainly ask my dr. about this.
You are worried (otherwise you wouldn't have posted.) so I would check with his psychiatrist. Your gut instinct I find often turns out to be right .Both meds are usually sedating but there are always a few that get the reverse effect on them. I wouldn't worry in the sense that as soon as they change the medication the side effects would be gone.
Risperdal is generally sedating rather than activating and Lamictal as well though in higher doses Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania as an occasional side effect though each person responds differently to each medication. Best to discuss these concerns with his psychiatrist so they can adjust and/or change his medication as needed.
