sleepless

It is going on 3 days and I have yet to sleep. I know that it's not healthy but for some reason I can't shut off, no matter how tired I am. The first couple of days were because my 21 month old daughter just had her 2 of her front teeth pulled but even before that I couldn't sleep and it's not safe cause I am falling asleep while standing at work or while driving. I told my doctor that I am having trouble sleeping and everything he gives me never works. So. What can I do cause I can't doing this anymore

I take Seroquil and it is the main reason I sleep most night.  However, all day I spend working on something that is challenging and new so that my mind gets tired along with my body.  Plus in a sense sleep and dreams process what you have learned or had on your mind that day.  Goals are important for the day.  Not stting them alot of times but completing them.  Journaling is the best thing that works for me.  Eveybody has a million thoughts go through their head everyday but most of "us" have racing thoughts.

Anyway, there are definately medicines that can work very well and I hope that your doctor will work with you to find what works best.  I enjoy writing where alot of people don't.  To some people it means having the patience to sit down and slow down life for a few minutes and think about yourself.  You don't have to keep a journal.  You also don't have to keep the things you write down, you can throw them away as soon as you finish.

But I can't stress enough how important it is to learn something new everyday.  Of course you won't get tired if you find yourself in the cycle of doing the same thing everyday.  I can run ten miles in the morning if I chose to, but if my mind isn't tired when I lay down I still won't be sleepy.  I don't know everything, nobody does, you have likely tried everything you can think of to get some sleep so why not give this a chance.

When I was a kid, most days I had no trouble sleeping.  I never had a certain pattern of sleeping, but I always found sleep.  If I seriously looked back the main reason for this was because when you are a kid you learned something new everyday.  Even as young adults we continue to learn something new everyday but it gets to a point when we believe there is nothing new to learn.
Something you can learn today is: fear is love going in the wrong direction.  I love that statement.  You can think for days about that.  You either fear the day going bad or love the fact that you can live another day.  You can either fear that you are not going to sleep or love the fact that while everyone in the world is sleeping, there aren't as many people calling God's number, so if you call in you won't be put on hold, you will get straight through and he will listen to you vent all night selflessly and non judgemental  lol
Anyway this wasn't as much as advise as it was something to get you out of your head for a few minutes.  Laugh at the thoughts that go through my head, think like a kid, let go of control, and get some sleep, perhaps.

Yea it really ***** what makes it worse is that you know you have to get up early the next day and you have alot to do and you know you need the sleep in order to gry to get everything donesnd you still can't shut off and you are so tired the next day that your dosing off standing up and while your driving and its dangerous and on top of that its the kind of rest you get is for a split second, but no matter what you do or how hard you try you can't sleep

I have tried trazodone and it didn't really help and when it comes to watching a movie that makes it worse, cause then I start obsessing about how it ends so I have to watch the whole thing and the hot shower or baths just wakes me up more

I am not sure I think with that serious of sleep problems medication would be the best way to go. Have you tried trazodone? it works for me. You could also try something that helps you relax. Take a shower or hot bath, watch a movie or other relaxation techniques.
