One clue might be whether or not you often feel like putting your hands on someone violently--or have actually done so. For example, our adult son, who has a diagnosis of BP II, but is in denial and refuses medication, has had increasingly severe rage attacks in the last several years. In the past, he has told me that he has thought of killing me, and just this last year, he has twice physically attacked his father, a 68 year old man, once actually during a therapy session and once in public during a conversation at a coffee shop.
Thoughts and behavior like these should be a warning that you might be dangerous, and certainly, if you feel like this, it would be important to talk with your psychiatrist.
Its really not something you can figure out on your own. Its best to speak to your psychiatrist about it. There are specific techniques and coping skills for anger management as well though for what medication is unable to treat.
