If a bad phase is coming on, I suddenly feel like people are talking way too loud and get very irritated at the noise, even though in reality it is at the same level as usual. I just am more sensitive to it at that moment.
I know exactly what you mean and i thought i was just crazy.
I have horrible anxiety and take prozac now for the anxiety/depression. i've recently stopped the prozac because it makes me feel horrible.
no matter what noise it is...theres something about it that bothers me. especially at night, everything keeps me awake. if theres a rhythmical or recurring noise, i will focus on it for hours waiting until the next time i hear it. or my increased agitation makes other sounds extremely irritating and intolerable, sounds that would usually not annoy a person to this extent.
I also have OCD so that might have something to do with your lack of noise toleration. I obsess about how annoying a specific sound is and i focus on it until it makes it so irritating that i have to somehow stop the noise or remove myself from the situation.
i wish it wasn't so complex...
but i know what you mean.
but whatever you do...say no to prozac.
it ruined my life.
I was recently put on abilify and it does seem to help some. But some meds actually made the noises thing worse. I've been on so many as of late I couldn't tell you which ones did.
it really helps me to hear that im not the only one out there..i felt singled out when the doctor diagnosed me...but i see things out the corner of my eye all the time. i constatly feel like someone or something is behind me or next to me. its very scary when my husband works nights to me when this happens...i also see a lot of movement thats not really there in mirrors..i really appreciate you sharing your experiences. THANK YOU
I have not seen that myself. Sometimes I do see things that aren't there. Sometimes shadows come up behind me and fly over my head. I think they're birds or a ball being thrown, so I duck. Sometimes I see things moving out of the corner of my eye, which is a more normal thing. Not too long ago I saw the figure of a man standing in our dark bedroom. I thought it was my husband and called out his name, but my husband was laying down.
Once, long ago when I was a teen, I saw an entire playground that wasn't there sparkling in the moonlight. It was right in front of me. I turned away and looked back and it was gone. That's the most clear visual thing that ever happened to me. :(
Make sure you make note of these things to your psychiatrist.
Do you normally see something in the middle of the road blocking the road while you're driving but its not really there? It scares me when it happens to me..
Yes I really get bothered by noises, not just the ones I know are there but the ones that decide to popup into my head or the things I can see that no one else can. Hope your meds help you.
It may take time to find the right treatment, but once you are in a stable treatment that is working all types of things will be better for you. I do not have a treatment that is helping me right now.
Noise and flashing lights really bother me. I also hate it. I think it's a major symptom that people ignore; like a sensitivity overload. Hopefully you'll find a good treatment and things will get better. Just start being aware when you're getting overloaded and take some time to go somewhere quiet and dim. That seems to help me a lot. When I'm alone in the break room at work I turn the lights off because the bright lights bother me as well.
i was just newly diagnosed..they put me on a few different medications...do your medicines help with this noise problem? because sometimes its just the sound of my husband chewing his food or the tv is too loud or they way someone talks can just set me off and im really hoping the medicine will help me with this? does yours?
Yeah, when I'm symptomatic, transient noises, crowds of loud people, etc are highly problematic for me.
